We will be making another trip to Mooresville on January 17 to look for a home. Any guesses where we might be able to drive to see some snow? I know it would only be a guess, but any suggestions?

I'm sure if you go up to Boone, NC then you might see some snow in the higher elevations. I will be keeping an eye on the weather there myself so that I can voluntarily see some snow (as opposed to involuntarily always seeing it in CT before I moved)

we went up near Blowing Rock on Black Friday and it was snowing already. Not alot, but enough to make me smirk. It's about 90minutes away from Mooresville though, possibly 2hrs depending on traffic and ur speed.

Boone and Blowing Rock are 13 miles apart, in Watauga Co. Don't know where you will be in M'ville, but as earlier poster stated, depending on traffic and weather, around 2 - 2 1/2 hours. Please note: Hwy 321 is undergoing blasting and road work during the week, typically Tues and sometimes Thursdays. I do not know what the schedule is going to be for the winter months. Might be worth a call to the Boone Chamber of Commerce to find out b/f you go. (828) 264-2225

I don't think anyone has mentioned the ski slopes - Appalachian Ski Mtn. would be the closest. Other ski slopes include Sugar, Beech and Hawks Nest. Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, Linville . . .all terrific areas - you won't want to leave!!!

A great publication for info on the region: Mountain Times

I have a second home there - if I can provide any other info, feel free to PM me. Appalachian State University is there, too. A lot to do and see . . .

Depending on weather conditions, you might consider heading to Asheville instead of Blowing Rock/Boone. The two regions are quite different, in my opinion. Biltmore Estates is a wonderful day trip. Probably more likely to see snow in Boone/BR, tho.

Good luck! Mooresville is a terrific area - hope you find a home!

I want 1 good snow storm every year! Like 2 feet plus! It seems we get one every 5 years, and we are due for one now. I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Yeah, 2002 was a heck of a winter, LOL. Seems more ice than snow, tho, if I remember correctly . . . we were out of power for five days at one stretch, three days another time that winter . . .

I was just thinking about that, reading OP's message . . . and wondering if I should go buy a generator (ya think hubby would appreciate that for a Christmas gift????)

Anyone old enuff to remember 1960???? Snowed every week for like - 8 weeks. We kids had snowmen that lasted all winter - kept making them bigger and bigger . . .

Yeah, Mikealialex . . . maybe you will see snow HERE and not have to go to the mountains after all!!!!

Default Here's a link about the snow of 1960

The Blizzard of 1960

Great little read for anyone who doesn't know about the 1960 snows . . . or who wants to reminisce!

What is this snow you speak about? I am hoping for a bit of snow. Otherwise I will go to the mountains for it. FYi, when I go to Boone from North Charlotte, I take 77 to 40 and 421. It seems the "safer" bet, especially in bad weather. Only adds 10 minutes to the trip I think.

Yeah, you avoid the whole Hwy. 321 N construction that way. And f/ Mooresville, why not. Good advice.
