There's plenty of jobs in Charlotte and I'm sure that with some due diligence and effort - you'll be able to find one.

Try actually finding a job, in your field, for anything close to what you were making before.
If you have been laid off or lost your job as a result of companies going under, then every application you fill out or resume sent is competing against thousands of others applying for that same job, no matter how high or low on the ladder of success.

Don't be fooled by the employment rate posted.
It includes and discludes all types of relevant information. The current employment rate posted is smoke and mirrors compared to the reality of the economy in the US and world as a whole.
Most of those who have been laid off or no longer have a job due to their company closing its doors and have in fact found other full time jobs, are making half of what they made and are not working in a field of their choice. This a result of taking whatever job they could get for many jobs in the same field are just gone or will not be available for a long time to come.

The economy is in fact as bad as it was in 2009.
The only difference is we are treading water vs drowning, but we are still in the water exposed to all the elements and not in the safety of being on board the Ship.
Half of all US citizens are on some type of government assistance. That is over 150 million people.
We are only getting by as a result from loans made to the US from China, not to mention our debts to the World Bank and others are piling up.

I'd like to second the post above about Kannapolis. It's about a 45 minute drive to Uptown Charlotte, and it's among the most affordable towns in the metro area. Depending on what part you live in, it can be pretty rural/remote or suburban (closer to CLT/Concord).

The Oil Industry suggestion was in context to the point I was communicating.
The OP may have stated he was sick and hurting, but he is willing to cross half the country to come to Charlotte for work.
Maybe you have never been out of work, especially in this economy.
Finding a job and one making the same amount of money is very difficult to do now.

I know this about money:
The potential to make six figures and get a job in one of the few industries that is in demand of workers in this economy has a way of making a man's aches and pains not ache anymore. A healthy personal economy often equals a healthy body. Not having a job and wondering if you will have a roof over your head and food on your table is a bad place to be and only makes health problems worse.

It's like this:
The boat has sunk and you are treading water in the ocean.
The sharks are beginning to circle you. You are hungry, thirsty, tired, and running out of energy to keep going on. All of a sudden, you see land a few hundred yards away.
I don't care how bad your aches and pains are.
The sight of land and a chance to get to the safety of the shore will enable you to swim faster than Michael Phelps to get to the shore. Once on land, you have the resources to treat your wounds and heal.

The point is:
The solution is more powerful than the circumstance.
You gotta take what solutions present themselves and not tread water hoping to find something other than what is right in front of you.
