Look behind their coded messages. Look at newspaper articles from previous years. I actually have a job, so I don't have time to read through past articles to get quotes for you. Read them yourself.

Speaking of hypocritical---I don't see you cite proof of any of your garbage like "forced busing."

I'm well aware that you are a native as you are constantly pointing it out. I'm also well aware that you are a sanctimonious jerk to everyone no matter where they are from and particularly to anyone who doesn't agree with you or cares about something besides their property value. Your opinion is not always the RIGHT opinion. I'm certainly not stopping you from having any opinion or the right to "oppose what you wish." If you recall, you attacked me by insinuating I was a "bigot" simply because I don't support your buddy DiBiasio and the gang of 3.

I am here to talk about issues not defend myself from personal attacks from you. Don't throw punches at me if you don't want them thrown back at you though. If you don't want to debate the issues, go back to obsessing about your property value.
Your repeated posts speaks volumes. Unfortunately, I have to point out repeatedly that I am a native because it seems that the "natives" are all on the same side of the debate. Somehow right and wrong got confused with screw'em because of where they're from. I want to make sure that people that aren't from here, but who came here looking for a better life for their kids and their family, know that there are at least some natives on their side.

Bubba, you don't want to debate; you want to shout down anyone that might possibly disagree with you. You came here and openly attacked the scribe without providing proof and got called on it, and now you are all hurt about it and calling me a jerk. Hmmmm hypocrisy much? Nothing posted on the scribe's pages backs up you calling him anti farmer or anti native. Yes, I've read them and have read them for years. You can support anyone you wish, but when you throw out baseless attacks and use phrases like "coded messages" don't expect everyone to throw you a high five. If there was something posted, worthy of a debate, I'd be more than happy to oblige, but I won't debate baseless attacks on someone.

Sanctimonious? You come on here acting like you've won some big victory because of the actions of the very misguided and ignorant BOI. Then you don't like it when someone dares call you out on it? Give me a break okay? I'll be happy to defend my stance on forced busing. But realistically I don't have to, since you just have to look around, maybe talk to a neighbor or two that have kids being affected by this. Let me guess, you are one of those types that thinks that the BOI are a noble bunch that really cares about all the kids in system. That some how this is going to make education better for everyone? See Bubba, I don't happen to agree and think they botched this whole deal right out of the block and now have to face reality. They decided to play a little political roulette with the BOCC and came up losing. They had a supreme chance to make the system top notch and provide great opportunity for all kids, but yet they took the cheap and easy way out. Yes, I stood up and said my peace here and will continue to do so anywhere there is an open forum. Don't like it Bubba..tough. Like I've been told by many that think busing 15% of the school's population is a good thing...Deal.

For my property values...well...never once have I posted anything remotely about my property values. Once again you are making assumptions based on what you think and nothing more. My property values were in the tank long before the forced busing initiative came about. That little thing call a recession took care of that.

Peace brother Bubba!

Every once in a while I get a bug for checking on this and that. Property values?? I was up until 2 A. M. this morning looking at the for sale properties in our area. I couldn't find anything equal to our home that didn't cost at least $40,000 more than our tax evaluation states ours is worth. As a retiree with no plans to sell our home that has no mortgage, do you realize how much that saves me per year? And we live just minutes away from those more expensive homes that according to the pictures some have not been taken care of. We have wonderful, non-competitive neighbors. I will keep enjoying Sweet Union. I see no reason for anyone else not enjoying Sweet Union too.

Interesting as I have 57 posts and you have 1,015. I provided you some proof. I don't keep files of things people say to attack them with later like Scribe and certain CAPS members. I don't have all day to waste on digging up info for you which you will just disregard anyway.

Also, you don't know me or my views on immigration into Union County. If you paid any attention, you would have noticed that I want representatives interested in protecting the way of life of all citizens of Union County while not running the county into the ground financially.

That's all I have to say on the matter.

You aren't going to silence me though. I'll continue to post my facts and opinions despite your abuse.

I, like many of you, grew up here but moved away for a looooong time and have recently (relatively) moved back because, despite all the ass clownery, it is a good place to raise kids. I am caught between "the devil you know" (brown derby, wink wink) and the "tax, build (in the West), tax". There doesn't seem to be middle ground candidates, like Bubba said, that will benefit the entire county while still being good managers of the county funds.
Something HAS to give. Residential dev. can't pay the bills (especially with no impact fees). No one wants increased industrial base in their backyard (I don't want Waxhaw to look like Hwy 74 either) and the taxes aren't covering it (and tell me who dares say they will raise the taxes).
At the risk of being told I say this A LOT, we came from the Chicago 'burbs. Taxes were out of control. Higher that LI. And it all went to schools. I benefitted from those schools but in the end several sat empty while taxes continued to rise (I think that is why I am so adamant on this).
I have spoken to several people that feel that Sherri is smart and capable but I can't get past her developer ties. IMHO, residential dev. needs to be reigned in (Waxhaw needs to adjust its zoning restrictions) and an industrial tax base needs to be established...go ahead, I'm ready for the abuse.
You all are smart...what do you think a good direction for the county might be?
Lastly, I'm not looking for a fight...just your opinion. I'm not going to get into rich v poor, burbs v rural, etc. It's not worth the time. I am trying to have a better formed opinion.
I am completely with you raith and feel very much the same exact way... trying to see past the rhetoric is difficult at best. Most seem to be content warning us or throwing eggs at the CAPS 3 instead of explaining why another candidate might be better. Based on talking with people and historical reference, most of the other candidates are just simply retreads who helped get us into this situation in the first place. They'll just as likely be worse than better.

Smearing people or ideas without providing alternatives (when we all know something has to change) reminds me of the national agenda we see from the GOP nowadays... it's kind of sad and funny at the same time that our own UC politics are a microcosm of that big picture.

Unfortunately, sometimes you have to arrive at who you vote for through the process of elimination.

I personally think J. Simpson is a good candidate. He lives in Waxhaw and has a background in Ag, giving him an understanding of the different ways of life across the county. His career with the Cooperative Extension made him knowledgeable about all areas of Union County. I think he will work for the betterment of all citizens in Union County and not just those in a particular area of the county.

His Bio from Union County's website...
Jerry Simpson
Vice Chairman Jerry Simpson was elected to office in November 2010. He was elected Chairman on December 6, 2010; and re-elected Chairman on December 5, 2011, and December 3, 2012. He was elected Vice-Chairman on December 2, 2013. He graduated from Parkwood High School in 1972 where he played football and track and served as student body president his senior year. He completed his bachelor of science degree in Animal Science in 1976 and immediately married Sheila Miller of Waxhaw.

After a one year stint as a teacher in the Union County school system he returned to NC State University to serve on the faculty as an extension specialist, where he was responsible for the performance evaluation of swine at the Central Crops Research Station in Clayton, NC. He continued with Extension as a cross-county livestock agent in Cabarrus County and then transferred to Union County in 1981. In 1998 he was named County Extension Director for the Union County Center and was responsible for administering education programs in Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community Resource Development and 4-H Youth Development.

Vice-Chairman Simpson and his wife are the proud parents of three sons, Joshua and Justin, 34, and Jordan, 32. They also have four grandchildren, Faith, Malachi, Rosemary and Myles.

Vice-Chairman Simpson has been active in his professional life as a gentleman farmer, and in his community and church.

I don't know if I'll vote for all 3 or not, but Kim Ormiston definitely has my vote.

How does a background in Ag give him a better understanding of the different ways of life across the county than say, someone with a background in banking or insurance?

Keep 'em coming...

I love the "Gentleman Farmer"...makes ya fell good. With the Steeplechase and all comin' up...brings back memories and feels all "Anthony Bourdain-y".

WXW Mike...tell the others to put "Gentleman Banker" or "Gentleman Accuary" on their site...

How about a write-in for "the lady at Harris Teeter with the Balanced Checkbook" (but then the FoodLion contingency would go nuts...not to mention the Aldi crowd).
