So about that...

On a night of a 3 hour and 32 minute BOE meeting, were there any comments of substance about that sausage making? Of course not.

I think Bubba, waxhawdoc and myself were probably the only three who watched it and enjoy trying read the tea leaves.

Coto shouldn't have waited until 2:29PM on Friday before a holiday weekend to send an email to Ellis outlining the BoCC funding proposal that was approved the night before. No doubt it contained some of the other stuff that was discussed at the late night BoCC meeting. There should have been a heads up call earlier in the day. It's not like these people don't know each other. Bush league.

Ellis shouldn't have taken an annual leave day on Friday with the budget issue out there. We all like to have long weekends but every executive knows not to take vacation days at certain times of the year or when there is an important deadline looming. For that matter there is really no such thing as a day off or vacation unless you go off the grid. Ellis, the rest of UCPS senior staff, and the BoE for that matter can wait a couple of weeks until school is out and the budget is done. Bush league.

Yearcheck had every right to postpone the joint meeting when the BoCC tried to change the agenda. At this standpoint why change the agenda 8 hours before a meeting when progress was being made over the last few weeks?

What was the deal with a 90 minute closed session? I understand that the BoCC is trying to box the BoE and UCPS in with the budgeting and funding approach, but it doesn't necessarily affect the appeal unless the BoCC wants tack on a few more cents for a set amount of time, like a school board levy, or potentially take one of the other approaches that Yates outlined on Thursday.

That could be quite the profitable business model though. Think of the oldest homes in UC renting out for top dollar so that the renter can have their pick of any school in the county. Just built on the last lot on Skyecroft? So sorry.

here is the post to be openly transparent for the few who do not follow both pages:

"Ya know, I went on the City-data forum to be open and transparent. I had heard rumors about how my character was being maligned and misrepresented by a small few of the many posters on that forum so I decided to go on and answer questions directly. To those not familiar with city-data most posters make up anonymous names that they hide behind so no one knows who they are - kind of like letting them bully anyone or say anything without being outed for who is actually making the comment. I decided anonymity is not for me and I signed on as ME with my REAL name. Most of the people of City-data have been great, some do nothing more than make snippy comments like school aged kids. I know that some of the posters from city-data are on this site as well. I believe in transparency and even though several of my responses to questions or comments have been reported or deleted by the forum admin due to complaints from these anonymous posters - That's OK. I will continue to make myself available, to be open and transparent - Even when my message appears to resonate with some on city-data, this seems to upset those small few who do not want my positive message to get out and would prefer to continue to the snickering and character bashing behind anonymity. I understand we will not all agree, and I understand when we all give our views that they will differ at times. I understand that anonymity allows for some to be who they may not be in real life - I will always be who I am, act like myself, represent myself AS myself and continue to work to better my surroundings. I will work with anyone who wishes to bring positive results to this County through their own voice or through anonymous posts. Bottom line, let's ALL work together instead of tear each other apart. It never ceases to amaze me how brave some people seem to feel when they are hiding behind a curtain, come out into the light - stand in the Arena and honestly work for the betterment of all of us. Again, most are great, but some......Wow I graduated HS and HS type games a long time ago......"

I see that post as being factual, most here are great but some no matter what I post have prejudice and issue with it. I won't mention who or I will be deleted - y'all know who. There is nothing ugly about that post, just my opinion based on how I see the facts. Most are great on here, same as on United page, some are not just like on United page. And..in the spirit of lighthearted fun the posters on CD faired better than I, some on that FB thread refereed to cockroaches when discussing CD, I on the other hand was referred to as a urinal air freshener in a port-a-potty and that was by a member of the rumored "cartel" I have heard about on here. Ya know I just can't win sometimes...LOL
Hey, I think it's great that you are open in who you are on here. At the same time, I don't think this site is set up to be like that, you know? I assumed when I initially signed up to participate that we were supposed to be anonymous - kind of like internet safety. I can say personally that my Facebook page is limited only to friends and so being "myself" is perfectly acceptable. I think sometimes things are taken as attacks because people take constructive feedback/criticism as an attack against their character. But it is most definitely not in most cases! When folks start making references to being a bad parent, a bad person, etc. that is just uncalled for.

Back to the topic - anyone have any guesses on how long it will take to build new schools?! I saw that a proposed site for middle/high schools was near the intersection of Waxhaw-Marvin and 75. I think that would be a great location. But then I foresee chaos again when redistricting must again happen. I wonder how many folks would be willing and happy to redistrict if it meant going to a brand new school. And based on this answer, if "yes, I would be happy to relocate my kids" - does that then mean that the crux of the problem lies in the move to older/run-down facilities (and not the actual redistricting)? I assume the feelings would be mixed. I'm thinking that my kids will be out of school all together by the time new schools are built, but who knows. If that were indeed the location, I am 100% positive I'd be going through yet another redistricting (making it the fourth time) since my kiddos started school.

It's been my observation that the more a person has to tell us about their high qualifications, especially that they are open, transparent, honorable, trustworthy, good as mom's apple pie, etc. etc. ad nausium, etc..... the less likely it is to be true. It's not a substitute for a logical, straight to the point, discussion of the issue(s) at hand.

The topic is about Union County Schools Redistricting and the best posts in this topic stick to that subject.
WaldoKitty, I agree 100% that people define themselves by their actions.
As far as the "telling us their opinion of themselves" part, well if the truth about myself was told and not false rumors then I wouldn't speak of or need to defend myself, I actually do not like talking about my accomplishments at all, most people don't. Setting the record straight and then answering questions now that I have stated publicly that I will run for elected office to The BOE is not merely blowing a horn - its setting the record straight and making myself available to answer questions as a candidate for office. Why here? The Redistrict in UCPS was a huge issue and one that will be discussed in detail during the coming months as it has over the past few months.

As far as "people define themselves by their actions", if you truly want to know who I am then go find out about the actions I have taken throughout my life and not a few snippets perpetrated by a select few with skewed opinions formulated through rumor or snapshots of actions that certainly do not define me as a person.

As always, feel free to ask me anything - I am an open book. The actions I have taken throughout my entire life define me, not a small amount of time. We all make mistakes, none of us are perfect and I am a sinner like everyone else. However, I have moved beyond my past mistakes and have become a better person because of the lessons learned. This redistrict is but one issue and even on this issue I have learned and evolved, education on subject matter is a refreshing thing in life.

The topic as you stated is about UCPS redistricting and I am running for BOE, so i see the relevance to my posts. Not all discussed on this thread has been or will be about redistricting, yet you do not seem to have a problem discussing issues outside of redistricting unless its from someone with whom you do not agree. Just an observation, nothing more.

I sincerely wish you well.

SMAHER, I will whole-heartedly agree with the last part of your post....some posters seem to view the BOE as this untouchable, omnipotent deity that cannot be questioned. The response is "move along now, nothing to see here, just accept what the gods have passed down as gospel and how dare you waste peoples time by actually questioning something you feel that for your family could negatively impact them"....The BOE Gods know what is best for everyone, we expect total obedience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL, thank goodness many of us do not accept that

I have to disagree. I am at odds with several issues on the BOE docet (just not the need to relieve overcrowding) and have made my feelings known in many different ways. We may win some, we may loose some but I can't let one issue dominate the conversation or else there is no room to negotiate. Politics is like that. I suppose if you don't like the current President you have stopped paying taxes and have stockpiled an arsenal. Probably not. You are moving forward and seeing what you can do to change things next election cycle. And perhaps once the judge comes back with a verdict that is your plan. I don't know. I think the lack o finality as made this harder than need be for everyone.

Sean...I'm being completely candid here...where are all these character assasinations you speak of? Outside of people poking fun at the site I think you have been treated with respect and heard out at every instance. Again, people may disagree but that is what debate is about. Are we looking at the same thread? People on here only get snippy when confronted with rudeness.

I had no idea who you were nor that you were planning to run for an elected office. It's not important or relevant to this discussion. Lots of people say they are going to do things, but often little comes of it.

For the record, now that that I know, I have indeed asked you several questions here. You have chosen to avoid answering any of them so as I said earlier I see no point in asking further.

raith, 2 points.....my original post said "some" posters, so I never implied all feel that way, nor did I single anyone out....Yes BOE has many issues, but this thread is a "redistricting" thread, so I was limiting my comments to redistricting as I believe another poster chided many of us to stay on topic....Concerning redistricting, there have been SOME posters with the attitude of "its over, let it go, time to move on" If they want to do that, hey, more power to them. But not everyone has to feel that way, and I get the feeling these posters are mad or "annoyed" that these people are doing what they feel is right for their children. If the posters that want to move on feel that is the best course of action for their families, have at it, but not EVERYONE agrees with that mindset

Aha! The crux of our disagreement is the lack of finality. I agree that everyone is doing/supporting/voting what is best for their family. If your family was affected (as most of ours have been)everyone realizes that you are going to upset. I, personally, would rather you venting here or on Seans site. Its good therapy. There will be an end though. And I hope that once that decision, whatever it is, comes down that this all stops and we work together to make (insert school here) the best school in the county because we can....even if it's 10 miles away.
