Hello! I'm currently living in South Charlotte and teaching in Union County. I'm only 22, though, so I've decided that I really want to live closer to uptown to be close to friends, other young people, and the city scene. I'm trying to decide how close to uptown I can get without my commute just being obscene. I'm hoping to live in the Chantilly/Elizabeth area, and I'd be driving away from downtown on Monroe and/or Independence around 6:30/6:45. Is the traffic bad around then? I mean, obviously anywhere near uptown is congested in the AM, but is it manageable?

The tough times are 630-830. I work close to uptown and it takes me 40min from SE CLT. I would say an hour to Monroe at that time. I could be wrong as Monroe is away from uptown. I know going towards CLT can get hairy at those times. 74 is tough because of all the lights. Put it this way, I wouldnt want to drive from Uptown to Monroe each morning....Best!

Yes, I think it is manageable, you would be going against traffic the whole way. Just realize that you would be traveling quite a few miles and the gas costs could REALLY add up. That would be much scarier to me than the traffic

You'd be ok. Most people are coming inbound in the morning and you'd be going outbound.
