My husband and I are relocating to Charlotte from Atlanta. We are currently searching for a home in the 500-600k range. We would like to live in a neighborhood that is socially active, has lots of fun neighbors, and holds events that allow neighbors to get to know each other. My job will be in Matthews. Any recommendations?

I'd look at your country club options. Ballantyne Country Club is great for socializing and has homes right in your price range. There are activities almost every weekend and it's also great for kids (if you have any) and great if you're into tennis or golf. Also check out Providence Country club. There are non- country club options, but the social calendar will be way less active.

Also consider Ardrey, Ballanmoor (if you are thinking about new construction), Bridgehampton, Providence Plantation (pool membership may be separate). Ballantyne Country Club has different pricing depending on the membership and Providence Country Club will also be a separate membership (not included in HOA fees).

In Union County, consider the Chimneys of Marvin, Marvin Creek, Providence Downs and Weddington Chase.

Brookhaven in Matthews (Union County) and Weddington Schools, can walk to elementary school (Antioch). Neighborhood Detail
Has 2nd largest pool in Union County with water slide, lazy river. Has very active tennis program with many women's teams and a couple men's teams. The expansive clubhouse has many socials and the workout facility is on the first floor. Most of the children are middle school and younger in the neighborhood. Home values seem to do well and homes seem to sell fairly quick. You did not mention if you had any children, if you are empty nesters then I would not recommend Brookhaven.

We live in Brookhaven and I agree about the empty nester rec. The neighborhood is full of younger families (30s & 40s) with kids. However, the reason I didn't recommend Brookhaven at first is that, while we do offer a social calendar, it's nothing compared to a country club. We do about 3-4 social gatherings a year, while BCC and PCC have something going on almost every weekend. If you're interested in the CC option, PM me. We used to belong to BCC and I can fill you in n cost and options..

We live in Ardrey and love it. The neighborhood falls right in your price range. Great, active and unique community that is close to schools and shopping.

I'm not so sure that I'd recommend Providence Plantation that someone listed above. It's VERY spread out and there aren't sidewalks and the lots on some sections are very large so it's not very walkable. Yes, there is a pool and clubhouse, but with the other things like I mentioned above, it wouldn't be on my list for a social neighborhood. It's a nice neighborhood and you won't find houses on such large lots in many neighborhoods these days, just not social.
