We live in North Phoenix and are hoping the market will cooperate with our plans in May/June. Can anyone else give us info on the nuclear power plant at lake norman?? We love the area but never realized that the plant was there until just recently. We too, are looking for land, 1-2 acres, with a 4 bedroom house, but not to far out so the kids can play sports. If anyone has any ideas of some areas oriented around kids, good schools and no HOA we would appreciate it. I am a Cardiac ICU Rn, does anyone have an idea of the pay scale around that area? Or any good hospitals to work for? I have a feeling it will be significantly less but with the housing cost hopefully it will all balance!
We appreciate any feed back! Tracey and Roger

Hey there, fellow zonies I'm moving from Gilbert Az to the Lake Norman. The pay scale is not less than Arizona, how could it be?

Congrats. Yep, we will be down the road. Actually we just signed the contracts on our house on Friday and they hope to start building withinn the month. What school district are you in? We will be in Lincoln. We ahve friends who live in Sherrills Ford but again their development was too rich for us.
Congrats, maybe we will meet someday.

Congrats! Maybe you'll pass us on the way! We leave next Monday or Tuesday from Chicago and will be closing on our new house on the 2nd. We found everything we were looking for in a home in Indian Trail. We'll be driving 2 cars, 1 kid, 1 large dog, and 2 cats. But we're only stretching it 2 days since it's not as far for us. I don't envy your drive! Best of luck!

Hello there!
Glad we are not alone in our quest to move to NC. Actually the pay scale for nursing in AZ is extremely good.. Are you a Nurse? You would be surprised at what incentives they give me to work in a hospital...
Good luck with your adventure, hope it all works out for you..

I am a Registered Nurse moving to NC from AZ. I want to find out about the quality of hospitals around the Lake Norman area. Does anyone have information about the environment, pay scale, or work load of the local hospitals? I will be looking for a Cardiac Critical Care Unit of a non profit hospital.. I will appreciate any feed back!!
We will be starting to sell in May of next year.. Hopefully the transition will go smooth!!

Thanks

Oh no I'm not a nurse, I can't stand the sight of blood. When I get a blood test I have close my eyes and wait for them to put the blood away so I don't see it I work in Finance. I'm glad to hear they pay you guys well, you deserve it.

Hopefully someone can give you the answers you need. You will love Lake Norman

There are some major players in and around the Charlotte area as far as hospitals go. In the immediate Lake Norman area is Presb. hospital and then at exit 33 is the Lake Norman Regional. Both hospitals are fairly new and top notch with technology. Pay scale I would not know but I am sure its in line with the current trends for hospitals in know they say they are short on RN so you may be able to write your own check.

Hope this helps some...

Tracey, for the kind of job you are looking for you should really look at the main location in uptown Charlotte of Carolinas Medical Center. They are this areas Level 1 trauma center and specialize in heart care. Just FYI...

North Carolina has nine trauma centers, five of which are designated as Level 1 centers, the highest of three levels based on medical specialists available and a variety of other criteria. In addition to Duke, the other Level 1 centers are Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Wake Forest's Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, the University Health System of Eastern Carolina in Greenville and University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

I promised I'd check in with my new forum friends and let you know what we ended up with during our recent trip to the Lake Norman area on our final house hunting trip.

Well, folks, after touring 14 homes in 2 days, we bought a home in Denver NC about a mile off of Hwy 16 and about 3/4 mile from one of the public boat launches. It's a nice newer home (little under 2 years) and fits the bill for what we were looking for which was: No HOA--close to water--on at least an acre--good schools--under 300K.

We toured in Denver, Sherrills Ford and Mooresville and found this home to be the best fit for us and we also needed a quick close because we need to get the kids enrolled in school. We move in on November 15th! YIPPEE! Just in time for Thanksgiving!

SO, here we are a week from closing on our house in Arizona, PODS sitting in the driveway getting packed, and soon be on the road with a 34 ft. travel trailer, 3 dogs, 2 kids, and two autos. OH MY! We plan to stop at several places along the way and just take it very easy since we have a 2 week transition period between houses.

Dorothy--we'll be just down the road a short bit from where you are buying!

OH and for the NASCAR fans, YES, we were able to make it to Lowes for the race on the 14th and had a blast. It was quite a weekend!

Any updates on anyone out there? New things going on? If anyone wants to know more about the "quiet side" of the lake, I'll try to help. I think we saw every square inch of it and love it.

Terri
Congratulations! Very exciting. You'll have to tell me how everything does moving in the PODS as that is what we are using. We have been on the go since we came to Charlotte. We also went to the NASCAR race, in style. One of the guys I work with couldn't use tickets from a friend and passed them on to us. Suite tickets w/pit passes, how could I refuse? We went down on pit road and called my nephew and met him in Dale Jr.s pit and then walked on down to Schraders pit (nephew drives his hauler) and he let me climb up in the pit box. I remember you saying you were going and I couldn't remember who it was and I had no time to search the posts.

Thank goodness you have 2 weeks for the drive, 2600 miles in 6 days. We used our trailer and stopped in KOA's along the way. Stayed at my mom's house one night in OK and an uncle's house one night in Little Rock. Cat did exceptionally well, we got lucky and the dog just slept and hung out. It's a long drive, did I mention it's a long drive. Saw Antelope in New Mexico and lots of dead armadillo's in TX, OK and ARK. No deer until we hit TN.

Our home has still not sold in CA but it's nice to finally see the homes we like on line in person. Just trying to figure out which city we want to purchase in when the time comes. Best of luck on the trip, keep us posted.
