I know there is a lot of talk about the independence project going on now. But once that is completed, will there be any work done to Albemarle rd to have another east/west freeway? Just a thought...

A few years ago, there was a plan to turn the Albemarle/Harris intersection into a grade-separated interchange. Public resistance and the inability of NC DOT to acquire the land killed that idea.

At this rate, Independence Blvd will be complete around 2040. By that time, I hope to have a flying car.

Albemarle Road within Charlotte city-limits? No. The only improvement that I know of for this corridor is widening the median between Harris and Central.

Though, it's interesting to note that NC24/27 (Albemarle Road) is suppose to be upgraded to expressway standards in the future, east of I-485.

I got a chance to speak to someone who was over the Independence project, and I was told that the construction for the next section is slated to start in 2021. Though, I was also told that the new highway funding ranking system could expedite the construction sooner. We will see in 2015.
