If I am on budget and need a decent place to sleep I will often stay at Microtel Inn. There is several around charlotte and for that date they are generally about 49.95. It about five dollars cheaper if you have AAA.
I have yet to stay at one that I wasnt happy at for the price.
They have free wifi internet and a window seat to sit and relax.
Some locations have a mini fridge and microwave.
Only faults I have is they micro pillows and low flow shower heads.
So I pack extra pillows and shower heads when I stay at one.
You can go online and sign up for Micropass and the 10th night is free.
Do this before you book the room.
The sugar creek location I am not sure of but the others are not best or worst locations it mostly industrial around these locations.

ANOTHER great suggestion Sunny
Here is what I found:
Online Hotel Reservations, Booking, Business & Leisure Travel: Microtel Inns & Suites (http://www.microtelinn.com/mappoint/Locator/CitySelect.aspx?city=Charlotte&state=NC&country=US A&in_month=&in_day=&out_month=&out_day=&guests=&ia ta=&rate_code=&submitMe=Find%20Hotels - broken link)
Of the ones listed on the map I would personally avoid numbers 1, 2, and 3 - all the others are in safer areas
