One main road over on Monroe Rd. It runs parallel to 74.

Rob, it parallels 74, and part of the town limits actually include 74.
To get to the old town center the best route is straight down Monroe Road from uptown. As you cross the big intersection of Monroe and hwy 51 you will almost immediately come into the old town downtown.

Matthews has a nice downtown area...Farmer's Market, library, restaurants, post office and Matthews Elementary, fire station and a few churches are in or near the downtown area....there's a park too. Course traffic is pretty heavy through there at certain times of the day.

Congrats on your new home! From Concord take I85 south and exit onto I485 heading west. After you pass the Mint Hill exits and go over hwy 74 take the Matthews exit and turn right at the bottom of the ramp. This will take you right into the town center I'd definitely park and walk around if I were you. There is plenty of parking by the Town Hall and nice new library. Just take a right at the redlight in the center of town, go over the railroad tracks and take a right into the parking lot. While you walk around do not miss seeing Renfro's Hardware - it is over 100 years old and has a very eclectic assortment of things for sale, in addition to hardware of course!
