Default Matthews downtown neighborhoods

My family is planning a move to the Charlotte area and have fallen in love with the downtown Matthews area. We would like to be within walking distance (less than 1.5 miles) to the elem school, stores, restaurants, etc) but are having a lot of trouble finding a development. We are looking to spend between 300 and 350K and the only neighborhood we have found has been Matthews estates which has limited homes for sale. Any suggestions? I would appreciate so much, I should have asked 20-30 searching online hours ago!

Matthews Estates is pretty much the only "development" within walking distance of downtown Matthews in your price range. Other than that you will need to look at individual homes on the streets surrounding downtown. Remember, this is a real downtown over 100 years old - the immediate area around it is all grided out streets with regular homes that have been there for decades. Many of them are just beautiful, some more humble but cute.

Planning to move spring/summer. I worry about safety on the streets (young kids riding bikes etc) which is why I hoped for a deveopment....or there any coming soon? A second choice would be to live in a neighborhood within walking distance to Elizabeth Lane elementary, ideally between EL elem and Matthews elementary. Any ideas? Thanks for all your help!

I did think of one suggestion - a brand new development just on the other side of downtown Matthews right at I485 - Greylock. It does have homes in your price range. I believe it is about 2 miles from the town center and school. Ryan Homes

There are several neighborhoods within walking distance of Elizabeth Lane Elementary - at least two are in your price range. Look at Sardis Plantation for one. I will send you a link for one for sale in there right now The other is closest to the school, Greygate, but may be in the upper $300,000's by now.

Thanks! I really do like what I have seen of Sardis Plantation, and I'll have to look into the other 2.
