My husband and I are considering a move to NC. We would like to move somewhere warm and are also looking at the cost savings for college the state schools could offer. We have a 15, 13 & 2 year old so schools at all grade levels are important to us. We will be coming to visit different areas but my initial research has me interested in the Mooresville and Denver area. We like to be outdoors and are looking for a family community/subdivision that is convenient (ie. close to shopping, movies, restaurants...) With my current job/experience I should be able to transfer to an area of our choice. I would greatly appreciate any info you could share. Our price range is between 300k-400k. We could go a bit higher to $450k but would prefer not to. We would be open to the Raleigh/Durham area also but it looks to be a bit more expensive.

Mooresville and Denver are both wonderful places to live. I'm not so sure about the schools, though. I don't know much about them. Check out Davidson. It's right next to Mooresville. It reminds me of where I lived when I was growing up in New Jersey.

Come visit first. Spring in NC is almost heavenly.

I would also reccomend having a "definite" job all set up first as well. Unless you are a attorney or doctor.

I might even say "even if you are an attorney." A lot of the corporate work dried up during the recession and I've known several attorneys who were not able to find work or only found contract work that didn't pay all that much and whose atmosphere resembled a call center more than a corporate law firm.

You might consider Concord NC as well - I would think that traffic would not be as bad as Mooresville - and the suggestion about having a job lined up is valid
