Those of you who work in the towers of Charlotte, how long does it take you on average to get downtown, park (or ride light rail), get inside the lobby, up the elevator, to your office? My daughter asked and I want to give her a good answer, as cosmopolitan living interests her at 14 years old.
From the Mallard Creek Rd area it takes me 30 minutes or so at 7:30 in the morning to be to work at 8:00 . I work at 3 Wells Fargo but park off MLK and Graham right next to the new BB&T park so by the time I drive, park, walk, ride the elevator up 25+ floors stopping at everything above 20 which is the longest part, its about 30 minutes.
I would walk from my apartment about five blocks away. Took about 12-13 minutes door to door. The walk was about 10 minutes and the wait for the elevators on both ends took a minute or two.
A number of years ago I worked on the 12th floor of a tower in the center city. This was before the LRT was built. It took about 10 minutes to drive to my parking space off E. 4th. It about 10 minutes to walk to my office which was easiest to get to through the Overstreet mall since the elevator lobby was there.
The only thing I didn't really like about it was the cost of parking and the walk in the winter. The cold wind could hit those towers the right way and whip of quite a chill.

Is traffic to center city most days not a problem? 30 minutes is a reasonable time!

It has it spots but mostly it flows pretty well. If on the interstate the 85 to 77 and 77 to 277 interchanges can back up but only for a minute or so. Trick to that is take the second 277 off ramp furhter south on 77 and it flows a lot better.
If taking Sugar Creek to Graham and then Graham all the way down-my current route, only 1 real bottle neck and that is the Sugar Creek and Mallard Creek intersection because its only a 2 lane road at that point on Sugar Creek. They are fixing this by extending Mallard Creek to Graham and doing a ton of road work so hopefully it wont be a problem. Now snow, rain, or accident then all bets are off. Mallard Creekn and WT Harris, or Antando and Graham are where I see most accidents usually someone trying to rush a cross traffic turn and get t-boned.

I've found traffic in the suburbs is much worse than near the center city. If you stay on the surface streets within 3 miles of uptown, you don't have to deal with much traffic because there are so many alternate routes.
Leave at 6:45 A.M. from Olde Providence. Pull into the parking garage around 7:10 and am at my desk on the 10th floor by 7:15. In the afternoon, I leave at 4:15 (if I'm not very busy) and pull into my driveway around 4:45. When I'm busy, I stay until 6:45 and pull in around 7:15.
How about from southern Iredell County, the Mooresville area? How long does it take to get inside to your office in one of the Center-City towers?
