I am moving to Charlotte very soon. I lived in Kenya for a while and usually go back every year but did not go this year *sniff* and I am feeling a bit homesick. Also I my swahili is going from bad to horrible....so if there are any Kenyans(or tanzanians or anyon else ) out there that know of a kenyan or tanzanian church or prayer meeting or social group or just wanna help me out with my swahili I would be so appreciative!
If you know of a swahili speaking guy who misses kenyan food but doesn't cook I'll exchange food for lessons! (i'm a good cook and know a lot of kenyan dishes) Shameless I know but if you heard my swahili you would understand
I grew up in Kenya. My Swahili has gone from bad to worse! Kidogo sana!
Anyway, ask away. There is a South African Shoppe here in town so at least you can get some familiar items for food and there is a deli run by an Indian couple from Kenya in Uptown.
Definitely check out the South African Shop on Independence Blvd. The owner tells me that there are over 200 families (that he knows of) from South Africa, living in Charlotte. I'm sure there are some from Kenya and Tanzania. I grew up speaking Afrikaans and a little Xhosa. Sorry, can't help you with Swahili.
Good luck to you.
Is any Tanzanian here in Charlotte? or do you know any?
No Tanzanians in NC or if you find them, they will be in major Universities?? Maybe. Unatoka wapi? I lived in Kenya for 4 years, had gone there to learn english and attended/graduated from Kianda College near westlands. I came to this country to go to UNCC, graduated and moved to Raleigh where there are many many Kenyans. I have only met one Tanzanian. The reason you don't find many Tanzanians here is their country is very peaceful and according to my dad who travels frequently to Arusha and Dar-Es-Salaam on business, many are doing well so they do not leave their country unless it's for business or higher education. I have never met any Kenyans when I lived in Charlotte though, but things may have changed since I left. Good luck finding Tanzanians? That's going to be very hard...
Ninatoka Dar es salaam and am going to school here in Charlotte.
I real miss speaking Swahili, one of the reason am excited to meet Tanzanians here.
Thanks for the info anyway,I know its gonna be hard to find one.
