Default Tipping of a Newscarrier

My Newscarrier left an envelope for a tip in the paper this weekend. How much do you typically tip them? I get the "weekend only" service.

Thanks

they left an envelope? lol how rude. you're not obligated to give them any tip. I mean I was a newscarrier for 4 years and yes in the back of my mind expected a tip and was very gracious for getting one, but never would I give such a direct hint as to leave an envelope specifically for a tip. During xmas time especially people would leave me anywhere from 5-20 bucks as an xmas tip, I would say the range was depending on their financial situation and their stinginess level. It really is your personal preference. I mean just because you give them 10 and some other person gives them 30 doesnt have any bearing on you as a person. Use your own sound judgement.

Since they left a "tip envelope" I would fill it with a piece of paper that reads "heres a tip...get some f-in manners "

They leave an envelope where I live too. It does seem a little rude but now that people pay by credit card they never interact with the paper carrier to pay the bill. The envelope is probably a result of this change...just a theory.

Our paper delivery people put a card in with the paper wishing us a happy holiday season, and include their name and address. We all know it's so people can send them a holiday tip, but it's a little more polite than just leaving a tip envelope. Because, you know, we in the Northeast are known for being polite!

as far as putting a note in the envelope,I am usually careful not to insult people that way, especially in a fast food place (they can spit in your food, or wipe the counter with it). I am sure the news carriers can do "stuff" to get back at you if they want.

Gotta love christmas time, it sure brings out the best in us.

I would tip if I felt I got good service. Unfortunately my weekend delivery of the Observer stinks.

I don't get the paper any earlier than 8am on Sunday which is unacceptable IMO. Since the subscription I have is less than 1/2 price, I guess I'm stuck...

You don't HAVE to tip, but if you feel you get good service, I don't see anything wrong w/it around the holidays....everyone has to eat ya know?

LOLLLLLL I will have to agree I'm a hyporcite here. I mean now as an adult I would still do the note. But when I was a carrier, I used to have my own brand of justice for those who were rude or didnt tip well. Once I put dog sh*t in the paper and threw it at the door. Another time I put the paper in the top of the screen door so when they opened it, the paper fell on their heads. Oh the antics we got into when we were young

I dont get it....why should you get a tip? The paper pays you to deliver newspapers, the people you are delivering too pay for the paper.

Should i get a tip from my customers for doing my job? No
