Man charged after E. Charlotte hostage scare
Police have charged an employee accused of firing a gun outside of an east Charlotte business, prompting a massive response from law enforcement.
Ahmed Anwar Ismail, 33, is charged with discharging a firearm within city limits, as well as possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The incident happened Friday afternoon outside of Super Lube on Eastway Drive.
Authorities arrived to find the business locked, prompting fear this was a hostage situation. Without knowing who was responsible or any other circumstances regarding the incident, CMPD officers also called in the SWAT Team.
The investigation led to lockdowns at nearby businesses and a school.
Police say the employees locked the doors and left the business after the gunshot. They returned once detectives made contact with them.
No one was hurt.
