Exclamation apartments near CPCC and UNCC

I have posted several threads about apartments in the Charlotte area and still haven't been able to find what I am looking for.

I will be moving to Charlotte in early August 2008. I will more than likely be working at CPCC and my girlfriend attending UNCC (masters). So we will be looking for an apartment in that general area.

I don't want to live directly IN the University area, we have both already graduated college and don't really do that scene anymore.

Looking to spend no more than $700 on a one bedroom, also needs to be pet friendly...and of course safe! Public transportation would be great if there is any bus systems..or whatever.

Really not familiar with the area, but I am moving from Burlington, NC (not that far) so will be making a trip down in the early summer.

If I could get some suggestions of apartments/townhomes that would be great!

ALSO: has anyone heard of Abbington Place....if so, do you know the price range?

The University area in Charlotte is not all college kids. It has some of that element, but it's not like a typical "college scene" as you said. UNCC is very much a commuter school. That said, I would recommend living in the University area because the areas between UNCC and CPCC are crime-ridden and the closer you get to CPCC, you're not going to have any luck finding something at $700 as the decent areas are very expensive (close to downtown). I would recommend someplace on the N. Tryon side of campus. I probably sound like an ad agent because I've posted this on many threads. I lived in Walden Court Apartments off JW Clay and N. Tryon for 2 1/2 years and loved it. The neighborhood is definitley pet-friendly and it is near public transportation ( the 11, 80x and 29 buses stop a short walk away). It's also in walking distance to a grocery store and some bars and restaurants. I think a 1 bedroom runs around 550. 2 bedroom 700. There's another complex on the other side of the grovcery store, but i know it is more expensive. If you don't like that area, Plaza-Midwood is near CPCC and a decent place to live, but I'm not sure what you would find for $700 there as it is a very "trendy" neighborhood. Hope this helps.

I'm also relocating from out of state and have come across Abbington Place. It looks to be in the $800 - $1,300 range per apartments.com. I haven't been able to find anything negative online about it - it actually has some really good but limited feedback online (Abbington Place Apartments Ratings, Reviews, Map, Rents, and other Charlotte apartments for rent from ApartmentRatings.com). Two others I've narrowed it down to in that area are Addison and Auston Crossing, but I've posted a request for local insight on another thread. The latter two look more affordable than Abbington. I haven't been to any of the three, though, and have only visited Charlotte once, so all of this is online research only.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend checking all properties on apartmentratings.com (when taken with a grain of salt, the reviews seem pretty helpful). Crime stats are interesting but I think the answers on these posts have been more insightful than anything else.

From crime stats and previous posts, it looks like Huntersville is super nice, but it would mean a bit of a commute.

Good luck on your move!
