We made our second trip to the area this year….and unfortunately, most likely our last (at least with the idea of relocating)
This time we stayed in Matthews, and explored the eastern side of Charlotte, from Matthews to Mint Hill to Concord.
While we loved the towns, it seemed all we did is SIT IN TRAFFIC!!!,
And this wasn’t on the weekend, this was Thursday and Friday – no race in town.
The traffic was especially bad on 74 and on 29 up to Concord.

We really couldn’t believe it. I thought the traffic was bad in FL.

We had hoped it would have been different, because we were really looking for a change, but what we experienced - I don’t think it’s going to be worth it to uproot the family.

We did however, travel to the Asheville/Lake Lure area at the end of our vacation, and experienced some wonderful Fall! Lake Lure is absolutely beautiful. If anyone is going to the area, make sure you travel down 64 near Hendersonville, and go to Granddad’s apple orchard – it was great.

Yep, there's no getting around the fact that Mecklenburg County has over 800,000 residents now and many others who work or visit.

We thought Matthews was beautiful, seriously considered a home there but, I could not make amends with the horribe traffic ...

While the official address of DH's new job is in Matthews, we were relieved to find out yesterday that he'll actually report to the yard in Stallings. Should make life a bit easier.

Independence Blvd is statistically the most traveled road in the whole state. This is why it is best to try to situate yourself in Charlotte so that you don't have to get on it every day to get to and from work. No need to avoid Charlotte, just avoid 74!

We left Saturday morning I jumped on 485/85 and got off in Gastonia and then took 74-A through Shelby up to Lake Lure. IT was great, as the wather was beautiful, and there we tons of garage sales!
Our goal in moving, was to find a small town (Statesville was our favorite, but too far away from Uptown). Charlotte seemed the best mix of atmosphere and job potential, but in the end, we feel that it wouldn't be right for our 2 year old to move just for some 'fall'.

Thanks to everyone for all of their help the past few months.
It is definately appreciated.

I live in Concord near the Speedway. When you're driving around and where is a BIG factor. I home school our sons, so commuting isn't an issue. I never go to the Matthews/74 area for the very reason of traffic. The traffic can get heavy at times here in Concord, but when you go out is huge factior.
I seldom
get into heavy, bad traffic as long as I avoid the rush hours. You must have hit a rare heavy "off" time. Sorry it happened to you. I just don't want it to give the wrong impression. And, yes, Lake Lure is truly a hidden gem. Good luck in your search!!!
