Hello, looking to relocate from CA. Found a nice community in the Midland area. We were only visiting for 1 day out that way. I didn't see any shopping or anything. Can anyone tell me about this area? Is there any shopping out there? Thanks

There's a pretty nice Walmart just down the road in Locust, that's about is as far as shopping (other than a Food Lion) but there are a few restaurants over there as well.

For most of your other big box type stores you'd probably have to go to Matthews or the University/Concord Mills area which would be 25-30 minutes.

I actually stay in Midland. It's literally 10-20 minutes away from all major towns. Midland is a small rural town and it is 5 minutes from a town called Locust, NC. Locust is growing... there is Wal-mart, McDonalds, restaurants, town center/hall, etc. Midland is trying to grow. I say trying because the Mayor has plans for a Town Hall/library to be built and a community park. Unfortunately it has been voted out due to budget cuts. If you like the small town rural feel then this area is perfect. The schools are excellent if you have any kids.

Thank you - that really helps. I will be working in University East drive, so I guess I would just do my shopping in the University / concord area? Does that seem about right?

I thought you said on a previous thread that you'd be working off of Independence East?
University East Dr is close to where Harris Blvd intersects Old Concord Rd. If that's the case, I'd consider Harrisburg. It has more 'everyday' retail than somewhere like Midland, it's closer to a mall & the schools are very good.

Just checking to see if you are truly asking about "Midland", and not confusing it with "Midwood", and I see other references to Independence Blvd and your thread title says "Midland area of Charlotte."

As you have heard, Midland is a very small and rural town out east of Charlotte. "Plaza-Midwood" or "Midwood" is an inner-ring neighborhood just outside of the Charlotte city center on Independence Blvd.

Two very different places!
