I just want to make sure when I go somewhere I am going to like it. Am I really wrong for asking questions? Who cares it it is for all those places listed above. I am "shopping around" if you will. I don't think you would buy a car without getting info on it first. Good and bad.

Thanks, and I appreciate everyone's help.

Uptown is located within the little beltway called The John Belk Freeway, The Brookshire, and is finished up by I-77. Inside that little circle of interstate is the Uptown area. My husband and I have lived in Uptown for the last few years and have loved it. We live near the south end of 8th and 9th streets in an area called first ward. It is beautiful here and the city is really working hard to tear old buildings and build new residences, condos, and office areas. It really is nice here. In just the last year or two three new towers have been built in the Uptown area and there are more to come. However it is pricey to live here. But you can get a smaller condo for a good price. The houses and larger townhomes are harder to come by and are much more expensive. My husband and I live in an 900 square foot condo. We like it here. We enjoy walking uptown to restaurants, clubs, etc.

I don't know if Charlotte has any youth hostels or not, but it might be worth checking into?

Looks like Detroit. But 99% of charlotte does NOT look anything like that.

Why do you say it looks like detroit it already been established the location of these buildings in the earlier post and all except second to last post the buildings and homes are in pretty good shape.
Look at the roofs, look at the siding, Look at the porch posts they are all in great shape. As a previous poster stated they are probably being held by investors. Just because there is boards on windows does not mean the building is condemned. It probably due to their is no occupants is to keep the homeless out.

I think 99 percent is a little high. You will cross neighborhoods that are in pretty rough shape on all sides as you enter Charlotte via any road other than a interstate.

Similar type of neighborhoods off Parkwood Avenue North of Brevard
around Villa Heights

Up North Tryon around Derita around Alando Junction
Up Tuckaseegee arond Enderly Park

Couple blocks over from South End near Southside park

Again we established not all Charlotte is like this but if someone was visiting and was trying to get uptown via non interstate from any side they are going to see a no so pretty side of Charlotte.

Since 1971 I have seen very little that looks like that, but then again my stomping grounds are SE Charlotte.

In any town there is urban decay if you want to look for it, but this would not be anywhere near where you will probably choose to live.
