The same bitter, angry people over and over.
I think there are about 10 of them, but they sure do make alot of noise.
I can't imagine the energy it takes to be so negative and silly, month after month.
Way to go Mary Ellis!
She impresses me as a class act, has remained professional and respectful throughout this entire ordeal.
Exactly! It wouldn't let me rep ya so here ya go. Some of those comments on that thread are just deplorable and disgusting. It's like it's turned into bash anything and everything Union County, doesn't matter what it is now. It's really sad it has turned that way because initially it used to have good info there for people new to the area.
Anyone listen to the BOE meeting?
It was very positive and informative. The BOE's concern for the kids is evident.
Mary Ellis continues to impress me. She works hard for our kids, you can hear the passion in her voice.
There was mention of including parents on advisory boards, and the addition of two new schools in the near future.
There was also a positive mention regarding the BOCC, it seems that the relationship is improving.
All in all, a nice meeting!
It was a nice meeting for a change. No public comments, nobody forcibly removed, bathrooms renovated, roofs repaired, CCEP getting geared up for May/next November. One big happy family three weeks for the start of school. Yeaaaaaaa...
More like quiet before Hurricane CAPS hits on the 1st day.
Some "facts" are starting to go missing as the 1st day and Election Day approach.

Any mention of where the schools would be?..I'm just sitting here musing. Many CAPS people were saying that no kids should be moved to Sun Valley, that it needs to be demolished and a new one built. I'm amused by the idea of one of the two new schools being a new Sun Valley. Would that make them happy?

SVHS replacement was not mentioned this meeting. Last meeting as part of CCEP discussion.
The thing to watch going forward is CCEP discussion and development. Would you vote for a bond issue/tax increase so the CAPS kids could get a new school again?

An excellent question, Sunshine. Once we are actually out of space as a county we need to do something about it. My habit as a voter of almost 30 years is to vote "no" on bond referendums, as I always seem to live in an area that will not benefit very much. They always throw a few bones to the older less populated areas but it's never been enough to tempt me. I guess I have to see what's in it, but I probably wouldn't vote for it. We need another source of revenue!!

I could see value in putting all of them in one building. I think they would be fine if we just purchased a few trailers.

I wonder if the $3M offer is still good from the BoCC? You could purchase some of that farm land across from Wesley Oaks, a few trailers, some big top tents to serve as a gym and multipurpose room and problem solved for a lot less money.

And that's the real issue here. It has been all along. Not all this redistricting tomfoolery.
In order to get any discussion of new schools, bigger schools, etc., etc., leading to a bond referendum one had to fill the empty seats with redistricting. Is there going to be some space a few places for a couple of years, yep. But that's about it.
1,900 votes didn't change the BoCC, 1,900 votes aren't going to change the BOE, and 1,900 votes definitely isn't going to pass a bond issue.

School names were already decided in a secret vote:
Stewart Elementary
Yercheck Middle
Hillegas High

Yup.
We need new sources of revenue (commercial and industrial please). And if a bond is approved they need to assess for it up front, not punt like they did on the last one where everyone acts surprised that taxes finally went up.
