I have only been living here a few weeks and I have seen so many people bringing their dogs into stores with them. Is that allowed down here?? I have seen it is Home Depot more than once. I saw it at a grocery store and even at a Wendy's. Where I am from you are only alowed to bring a dog in the pet store or only if it is a seeing eye dog.

I noticed that too when I first moved here 3 years ago but I have learned over time that Charlotte is home to a mass of dog lovers! It really doesn't bother me though as long as the dogs are behaved imo.

Animals are not allowed in any establishment that sells or serves food in NC. The only exception allowed by state law is for identified service dogs, such as seeing eye dogs. The law does not allow animals in carriers or pocketbooks in groceries or restaurants.

The County Health Department in each county is responsible for enforcing health and sanitation laws. That includes educating restaurant owners and operators. Failure to comply with health and sanitation laws can result in fines and/or a failing sanitation score which could temporarily close the establishment.

If you see someone take a pet into an establishment please quietly report it to the manager.

Many years ago, when traveling in Europe, I was so surprised to see dogs in restaurants, on the subways and even in an elegant hotel in Munich, they had a doggie bowl of water/bones in the lobby for traveling pooches! Now, I see them everywhere out here in L.A. - restaurants, grocery stores, etc. The times they are a changin! My kids love it!

Yeah, I have seen them at Home Depot and Lowes numerous times. Didn't bother me, just surprised me. But it bothered me at the grocery store and at a fast food restaurant.

When I was in Frederick, MD last week dogs were so welcomed there that if a store has a bone decal in the window, dogs were welcomed in the store. I thought that was pretty neat. Of course, I don't think a store would appreciate my 110lb. bulldozer!

Where do you all people shop at? I haven't ever seen a dog, other than a working dog, in any of the stores I shop at.
