Eastland Mall has no more crime than any of the other malls here in Charlotte. There have been shootings at Carolina Place and there are multiple car thefts ever week at South Park. That part of Charlotte was the place to be during the 70's and early 80's now it is experiencing a downturn. However the homes in that area along Central Avenue have gone from selling for in the 80's a few years ago to selling for 150+ now. This area is only 10-15 minutes from downtown and values will continue to rise.

Although it is true that all malls are going to have some crime going on - even if just petty theft in parking lots - I believe if one does a search on crime in and around Eastland Mall . . . the violent crime is considerably higher there.
I stand corrected if there are stats out there to support that my perception is wrong.

I really would not worry if you are going to be working a day job. I've felt safe there at all hours. Things might be different if you were taking a third shift gig as a security guard or something, but nobody's going to bother you in broad daylight if you're aware of your surroundings.

HAHA, I don't know what planet you are living on, but this is pretty much all inaccurate.

Slightly off topic, but did they (or do they plan to) take down Eastland Mall? I heard they were supposed to be getting rid of it. Too many thugs at Eastland.

I've also heard that there are/were plans to tear down Eastland. I'll believe it when I see it, not that I don't think it ill happen, but I'm sure it won't be any time too soon.
Definately pay attention to your surroundings and stay alert in that area. Don't make yourself a target and you'll be fine.
The traffic sucks over there though.

Eastland mall isnt the problem it the community that surround the mall and that is not going to change unless you remove the low incoming housing and lower rent apartments that plaque that area past Central Ave. & Sharon Amity.
That area just received a new transportation hub for the bus line so you will still see people who rely that as transporation including thugs at that location.

That Mall will probably be gone in 2009. The city is planning a complete teardown with a new plan to be implemented. http://www.charmeck.org/NR/rdonlyres...landFinal3.pdf

Eastland Mall is a private business and does not answer to the City. The City has no power to redevelope or force the owners of the mall to redevelope thier property. This mall is making money and unless the owners want to sell it or make a change nothing will happen anytime soon at this property. The City has nothing to do with what is a private business decision.
