Being a conservative, normally I'd complain about this comment.. but seeing as how I just invested in the east side I will take all of your money Its about time tax money was used in MY favor instead of someone else..
GO EAST SIDE!

06:02AM! Wow, you're an early riser.
Welcome to the Eastside. It's comforting to have another Eastsider champion the cause. We need more folks like you to dispel the misinformation that abounds about this area. There are so many desirable neighborhoods that people could buy into without going heavily in debt. We need to get the word out and to encourage more folks to give this part of town serious consideration when relocating to Charlotte.
Keep it up!

If you do go shopping at the mall (during the day) you will probably find some great sales and everything is not "picked over". I have found things on sale/clearance at Belks that were still regular price at the Belks @ Carolina Price or Southpark. And, you usually find that if something is sold out at a store in one of the other malls, you can usually find it @ Eastland.
Let me also say that if you are ever shopping at ANY mall and for whatever reason decide that you don't want to walk to your car alone, please go to the mall information booth and ask them to locate a security guard. You may have to wait a few minutes, but you can ask them to escort you to your car. I remember reading this suggestion years ago, in the Charlotte Ob. I have actually done just that (years ago when my kids were babies) @ Eastland Mall and at Carolina Place Mall and on each of the occasions the security guards were so nice and helpful. They didn't make me feel like I was being silly or demanding. One actually carried my bags while I pushed a double stroller to my car and the other officer asked me to wait at the exit door until I saw his security truck. He followed in his sec. truck behind me while I walked to my car and loaded my pkgs. I made a point of contacting their supervisors the following day to let them know how kind and helpful the sec. officers were and safe they made me feel.

Thats great to hear. My wife grew up here in Charlotte and remembers when Eastland used to be a prime area of interest for a lot of folks. It used to be real nice area. I guess times do change however. I will say that I am a bit uncomfy just even stopping at that mall over there anymore.

Being born and lived 15 years in the eastland area (right behind the mall actually) I'm no one to come to for information, I have too much of a personal connection. But I see eastland as a dangerous part of town only if you go looking for trouble. The mall is the main hangout for young people who are pretend gang bangers but pant saggin gang bangers only who listen to 50 cent and T.I. It's not dangerous, it just looks run down. I here that people are showing more interest in fixing that too.

Ahh yes, the good ol' days of Eastland. I grew up among South Charlotte yuppies, but Eastland was one of THE hottest birthday parties spots around. You weren't cool in 4th grade if your bday party didn't include skating at the ice rink and a trip to the Sanrio store (the only one in Charlotte back then). But then again, this was back when Hello Kitty was just one little part of the store

The Eastland Mall area is due to be revived this year. They are trying to close the Mall and build new condos. That would help. It's not the worst area of the City and its not that dangerous during the day. At night you do not have any reason to be there so just take heed.

Crinm up, Article.
Observer Article
"""
According to crime statistics tracked by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the number of total crimes dropped 11% from 1995 to 1996. However, the number of crimes reported at Eastland since the beginning of 1995, 1,728, was almost 52% higher than the total reported at SouthPark mall, according to police statistics.
The suit comes after several retailers pulled out of the mall in the last six months, including On The Edge, This End Up, JW jeans, Taco Bell, Arby's and Annabelle's Restaurant & Pub. General Cinema Corp. also closed.
Annabelle's had been in the mall for 20 years but after seeing a decline in sales the restaurant decided not to renew its lease in December. "We had seen a decline in traffic," says Loretta LaBreche, Annabelle's director of advertising and purchasing. "We had no outside sign or exposure, and you had to go under and behind the parking deck to get to us." The restaurant will open a new location on Pineville-Matthews Road this spring.
But several stores are doing well at the mall. Craig Cass, owner of the cigar and gift shop Tinder Box, says that cigar sales were up 25% last year. """
