BTW I am Latina and so no I do not think of Mexicans as "bad" and when I speak to them it is in fluent Spanish. As far as your scariest experience being at Southpark, I was just responding to your original post. And I say again, I do not want to have to plan a way to keep away potentially dangerous people by acting crazy. And as far as only knowing the Eastland area by driving past it; I lived there for over 20 years. I learned to drive in the Eastland Mall parking lot. We finally sold our family home, in 2005, after someone was shot and killed in the driveway of the corner house during a driveby shooting. You made a whole lot of assumptions based on absolutely nothing and seemed to have gotten them ALL wrong.

I made a whole lot of incorrect assumptions? I only see one - that you are afraid of Mexicans. It was an easy mistake due to the fact that you are afraid of people near Eastland... many of which are Mexicans. As far as the others:
1. I assumed you had not been attacked on Central. You were attacked on Albemarle years ago.
2. I assumed that you don't currently live in East Charlotte; you don't. Things can change in four years. I live there right now.
3. I assumed that you can easily be attacked in more affluent areas; you can.
I wonder why you are so angry about my posting that I like my neighborhood. I never asked you or anyone else to come live here. My note that you need to act crazy if you frequent Central Avenue was obviously made in jest; I'm sorry that you failed to pick up on that. Did you honestly think that was serious advice???

Not angry you are happy living near Eastland, seriously offended when someone TELLS me, I am prejudice. And BTW you made several assumptions throughout that post that were wrong. For example that I base my opinions on just driving through the area, I lived there for 25 years and still have some life long friends who live there now (not because they want to). Maybe if you take a moment to reread your post and see that rather than speaking in generalities you were directing statements at me you might see how rude you were. I wonder why you are so defensive about where you live? Noone is forcing you to move.

If your employer is hell-bent on being so Communist, and not allowing you to arm yourself for protection, may I suggest you employ my services? I'd be happy to accompany you whenever you must venture out into the Wasteland, fully armed and ready to assist you at a moments notice. Seriously, I need moving target practice, and the county jail is already overflowing. One must wonder if the filth of our society would continue to behave the way they do if instead of the "revolving door" at the DA's office, they were permanently (and rightly) removed from society with an actual revolver.

Eastland is a dying mall. The most stable mall is South Park. The largest mall is Concord Mills. The newest mall is North Lake.

You keep saying "several" misattributed assumptions, but I still only see one. I already admitted my error and now I now officially apologize for it. You are not afraid of Mexicans, and I openly clarified that. One more time… GKLEONI1 IS NOT AFRAID OF MEXICANS.
You discounted my ordeal in Southpark since it did not relate to my previous post which talked about my neighborhood and Central Avenue specifically; so our discussion is now bound to that region. You hold me to that standard, so I feel the need to note that the East Charlotte experiences that you referenced were all on or off of Albemarle Road (you lived off of Idlewild.) I have no personal knowledge of Albemarle Road or Idlewild, which is why I spoke of my neighborhood and Central Avenue only. I cannot use my two trips to Dunkin Donuts in a five year period to evaluate that area at all. While Central intersects with Albemarle, they are vastly differrent. This is common in Charlotte – if you stand at the border of Grier Heights and cross the street, your reality will change drastically.
I have friends and family in your current neighborhood in the university area, and I have even lived there for a period. I do not feel that these experiences have provided me with the appropriate personal knowledge of the present state of that area. I can only refer to police reports and statistics.
While I replied to your message, it was randomly chosen. Pages of posts expressed the same belief of the Eastland area danger; it was not targeted specifically at you (I can’t find a reply to all function.) There really was no intent at personal attack. You must certainly realize that people have dubbed this area "Little Mexico." My defensive attitude is for my neighbors (I noted that I am middle class white – public perception is not a problem for me), who are unfairly labeled as the criminal type that ruined the area. This attitude is prevalent and pervasive. The people that are regularly attacked by the media and our community are the same people that protect my safety while my husband is gone, so perhaps I have an overbearing desire to defend their reputations. I admit to my defensive nature of them. If the unfair treatment of my neighbors was inadvertently placed upon you, I again apologize.
So let us get back to the topic of danger… I took the liberty of finding your current address on tax records (CD identities are ridiculously transparent) and compared our crime stats. The 2008 data is available for both of us; I live in the Eastway Division and you live in the University Division. The data posits the following:
2008
Eastway
University
Murder/Manslaughter
3
2
Rape
11
11
Property Crimes
2416
2738
We can easily argue that these statistics do not necessarily relate to our individual neighborhoods. In light of this, I have also researched police reports for the last month in my neighborhood versus yours, and narrowed it to an eight block radius. We have equal reports of “suspicious people” and both have countless complaints of barking dogs. I will note that there have been no reports this month in my neighborhood of violent attacks, while someone has been shot a few houses away from you. Our crime stats are not that much off…. Why do you tell people that my neighborhood is dangerous and that you are safer since your move? Please note that I certainly will apologize if my numbers are incorrect. There is no harm in being wrong as long as you have the courage to admit it.
We both have a disturbing number of domestic violence complaints in our subdivisions. As active women, we should work together to combat this, and not battle about which neighborhood is better. I would love to meet with you over coffee about this problem that we both have. I respect your opinions, even though I have not agreed with yours and you have not agreed with mine. We should just keep moving and work together.

Eastland Mall is DEAD. I will have a party on the destruction day. EVERYONE is invited. Seriously - I will have party. It cannot survive and it cannot be resurrected.

First, I am moving in 4 weeks. Second, you are right when you say no place is safe but I figure I will play the odds. Also referring back to your original post... It seemed to me you were willing to compromise your safety for a bigger brick house and a pool. To which I just stated I have very different priorities. And if you ask any Native Charlottean if Albemarle Rd, particularly the part close to Red Lobster is part of the Eastland Mall area they will tell you 'yes'. And my old house is absolutely part of the Eastland Mall area. I appreciate your apology and I wish you well.
PS. It might seem I am running away from bad neighborhoods but it is so far just a coinsidence. The Idlewild house was my family home I grew up in and my current house was purchased by my husband before we met. We are now married with a child and have choosen the next home based on safety and schools...

I really did not mean to insult you. In all honesty, my priorities would be vastly different if I had a child. I really do love my neighbors, and as you have seen from my posts I am protective of them. They really do work hard and I will defend them continually, as they protect me while my husband is deployed.
Truthfully, I would never live in my current neighborhood if education were a factor. I get defensive about my community because my neighbors are really good people, but if I had a child they would attend Winterfield; which has a poor performance score. You have to do what is best for your children.
