I have tickets for the NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Cermony in January but I think that my husband is not going to be able to come. So, I'm thinking about taking the Greyhound bus into Charlotte and staying for two nights uptown. Have a couple of questions....

Should I cab or Uber from the bus station.

Thinking about staying at the Hyatt Place and walking to the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Convention Center. I have been there during the day and never had any issues but never alone at night. Is it a good area to do that or should I plan to use a taxi at night?

Any other suggestions for hotels or advice?

Its a short distance from Greyhound to Hyatt Place, there maybe cabs outside but there is a free trolley 'Gold Rush' Red Line that will take you within the block of the hotel. It runs frequent during the week, the trolley talks of upcoming stops. My recommendation for less walking with luggage and ride it almost completely around to where it circles on 4th Street and get off at the I think announced Government Center before it makes the turn on Caldwell St. The hotel will be to your left on that block on that street.

This is if you arrive on a weekday between 6:30 and 6:30.
If not during those times its your choice to decide between Uber or a cab.

Also you can take a city bus since the buses are in route to stop at Transportation Center located minutes away from the Greyhound station. Then it a 2 block walk to the hotel on Caldwell.

Here is the trolley map http://charmeck.org/city/charlotte/c...GR-Tearoff.pdf

The uptown is pretty safe at night. The police do patrol on bike as well as car. Like most cities, it's good to call it a night around 12:30 am vs. 3:00 am, when the ratio of drunk and sketchy people goes up. There is good selection hotels downtown especially a lot of Marriott and Hilton properties. The Hilton Garden Inn is quite close to the Hall of Fame as is the regular Hilton. The regular Hilton is attached to the Uptown YMCA so you do have access to a full gym, indoor track, olympic pool if that appeals to you if you are killing a little time by yourself. The Westin is really nice as well. It is between the Hall of Fame and the Football stadium if you are looking at map.
