those neighborhoods aren't NEARLY as bad as the neighborhoods in NY. (from what I remembered)

Charlotte isn't bad where you can't drive/walk around during daylight.

There's a lot of places in NY where you can't even walk around when it's daylight! Same thing with Miami, and California.

Charlotte isn't like that.

Hidden Valley is probably considered one of the worst parts of Charlotte....and my church goes there every week to deliver food.
I went there this Monday, and the people there aren't as bad as you think.

I saw Mormons preaching door to door in that neighborhood at 7-8pm!!!!
You can't do that in some cities in NY, FL, CA, and other places in the US.

Matthews/Mint Hill are nice enough and they are at 3 o clock. IMHO, Mint Hill is up and coming with the new Mall, Hospital and H.S.

Yes, but these are outside of Charlotte. Charlotte areas leading up to Mint Hill and Matthews (Hwy 74) are not so desirable.

Let's not split hairs....I've lived in Mint Hill for 20 years and yet my mailing address is always Charlotte, NC 28227.

But I agree with you that everything up to that is kinda hit or miss...mostly miss. I would love to see a thread about the downfall of East Meck...that used to be a top area H.S.

Whatever lovesMountains. Sorry, I didn't realize Independence was still called Independence towards Uptown. The signs say 74. I don't care. Remember, I've only been in CLT a month - and I know now to stay away from this area.

Wasn't trying to split hairs but say that Mint Hill and Matthews are Southeast/East of Charlotte and at the 3 and 4 o'clock areas referred to the OP. You have to get to Mint Hill and Matthews before it is "inhabitable."

And I so agree with you about East Meck. Such a shame.....

Also, Thermal Rd. and some of the 'hoods bordering McAlpine Greenway are nice....they are East Charlotte, too.

Yeah but it is starting to seem like the lines are blurring between good and bad neighborhoods. I used to think I moved into a "good" Charlotte neighborhood (the northwest region, I suppose around 11 o'clock), but there are bad things that happen around here, too. One thing that freaked me out especially was the kidnap/rape of a 30 something year old woman over the summer, at the grocery store around the corner from where I live!! She went at 9pm!!! Was forced back into her car, taken to some remote area, and raped... lucky to be alive. Guy was never caught. It makes me afraid to walk around, even around like Northlake mall (also in Northwest Charlotte). Seems to be a lot of shady people over there, honestly. The crime here is high, all over the city, sure it's higher in some areas than others, but you just gotta watch your back no matter what - and don't assume you are safe just because you are in an area that is labeled "safe." NY is a lot different than Charlotte, believe me I grew up in suburban NJ and we could leave our door unlocked and never blink an eye over it.

Trying to pinpoint areas using the clock is a little difficult at best. A lot of good areas are on that same line as the bad ones.

A better option may be to check out the CMPD website and look for the crime info page. It shows how many calls for service are made at certain addresses or certain small areas.

I'd offer up a link, but I can't even get on the website for some reason.
