Actually, what carolina-guy said was to stay away from "Monroe Rd./Independence/Idlewild junctions" - which I would agree with. BUT, this area is ALL apartments, filled with Latinos - who unfortunately make great targets for thugs and theives because they are known to carry large amounts of cash.

I also agree with whichever poster said you can't do the clock thing in trying to describe areas to avoid in Charlotte - it is just not that clear cut.

The question is impossible to answer without the answer being taken off of the thread for racism. If you are from basically any diverse city in the world, you should know the answer. Use common sense and stay out of the bad areas and you will more than likely be fine.

Stay away from harris, starting at independence all the way to the uncc area. Also stay away from idlewild, albemarle rd and monroe road.

I can only comment on area that I know, but to "blanket" all those roads like that is absurd IMO. Yes , as stated before SOME JUNCTIONS might be rough.

As far as IDLEWILD, I often shop at the Harris Teeter , Dine with family and friends at a Restaurant, and also belong to a fitness center all in that same Plaza right on the corner of Idlewild.
ALBEMARLE,overall can be considered sketchy, but I have ventured out that way to try new restaurants i.e (Woodlands, yum BTW) and have also had no problem shopping at the Target both right on Albemarle.
MONROE Rd. I have tried two salons there and also there is a bakery there that has some tasty things.(bread basket)
These are just a few things off the top of my head.
I would have missed out .
Just my 2 cents.

Crime in Charlotte, NC

Thanks for the link banker.
I quickly read through the caption "teens and my space" (chills)
someone left a comment there saying "the parents should contact my space ". If only we were lucky enough to have ALL parents CARE that much and be involved in our childrens lives. That's part of the problem.

I have no problem stopping/shopping or eating in any of those areas either near Idlewild - I just wouldn't live around them

As far as Albemarle Rd goes, I would avoid stopping, or living, anywhere right around Farm Pond Lane and Harris Blvd - other than that Albemarle gets better and better the closer to I485 you get.
