I have to weigh in here having been the victim of crime in Charlotte. It doesn't matter whether its young mis-guided boys trying to prove themselves (I call thugs) or older, career criminals (I call criminals). They are all lazy rats with no sense of right or wrong, and no care about what they do to others. It's like this crap we hear about illegal aliens being "undocumented"...the fact is, they are ILLEGAL. You say these "boys" don't mean to hurt anyone, yet they do. When they take something from you without your permission, they also take along with the objects your sense of security and freedom. You must have heard this before, but maybe think its trite, maybe too simplistic. When you lose your sense of security, you lose everything. When enough people lose their sense of security, bad things start to happen. For example, people start to arm themselves, and when enough do, these "boys" will get caught, and some will get killed. The thing we all need to remember is that the person who leaves their car door or house unlocked is NOT AT FAULT (although maybe a little stupid in the society we live in). The THUGS are at fault. We need not understand why they do what they do. We need to catch them, punish them, and if they don't learn from repeated attempts at punishment, they need to be banished. We owe them nothing.

Back on topic...if an area is bad in Charlotte, avoid it. West Blvd is bad. One that hasn't been mentioned is Old Statesville Road. There was some SWAT action there around 9PM one night last week. Thug, gun, bang, someone hurt, road closed for hours.

There is crime, but its mostly petty non violent crimes done by young misguided boys such as car break ins and stealing phones and wallets left unattended or in lockers. Of course there are violent crimes also but those are going to happen everywhere, I havent noticed a larger number of those on West Blvd than anywhere else in Charlotte. There are some gang related crimes ( mostly car break ins and drug related crimes ) but Ive noticed that most of the gang related stuff is young boys trying to prove themselves and dont really mean to do any harm to anyone. The city has taken strides to lessen the crime that is there by moving businesses into the area and having police outreach programs to the poorer communities like West Boulevard and I can attest that they are working. To sum up my point, while crime is crime and all crime is bad, the crime in Charlotte, even West Boulevard, is very petty compared to the organized crime of Atlanta, LA, or NY, just lock your doors, keep your possessions on you at all times and dont walk up dark alleys and you will be fine.

Please tell me your kidding?? I took my cousin from west blvd towards uptown and he told me please don't ever take me this way again... He lives in hoboken nj and commutes to manhattan daily! He has worked 7 blocks from the WTC since 2000. West blvd is rough, period. Keep in mind, I am someone who has worked in NYC.

[quote=newinclt;2346675]Stay away from Independence from where 74 becomes Independence, all the way to 485. Unless you are shopping there, stay away. Do not live anywhere near there.[/QU

I currently live in Idlewild farms and love it. Dont listen to this child he has no clue. Anyone that lives here knows that the crime anywhere in Charlotte is mostly in the apartments weather you are on South Blvd. or independence. Most of these neiborhoods are appreciating and are great investments. They used to say the same thing about south blvd.
