There's a new fun center too on 521 and Ardrey Kell. Zuma on South Blvd is ok.

Also, Discovery Place will be closed in January 2009 for 14 months, not 2008, for a $31 million rennovation.

Thanks for all those wonderful resources. My daughter will return from her holiday vacation shortly. That leaves me with another few days of no school and my daughter will want something other than the usual distraction, which for us is the library.

The libraries system here in Charlotte is good. I believe all in the county offer programs for the children (and some for adults too). Library cards are free for county residents. You can check out movies on DVD and VHS, books, books on tape, educational materials in various formats, etc.

If you can log onto the internet, you can use your library card to reserve items from the comfort of your own home. There's an automated system to call or e-mail you when your reserved items are ready for pick up.

It's free to hang out at the library and you don't have to pay for most of the items you check out. The exceptions that I know of are new popular movies on DVD and some of the newly released fiction.

Our local branch even offers tutors to help the children with homework.

Thank you very much, guys for info! Moved 3 months ago from Ma. liked so far. I wish there would be plenty art centers, crafts, spanish, french lessons fot 3-5 years old kids near Gastonia, Shelby area. But so many things to do is near Charlotte only. We had Abracadoddle art center in Kings Mountain but it's closed now what a pity! But thanks again!
