This is absolutely correct... She clearly abused her power - she knows it. She could censure herself and/or resign to save the county money.

She did ZIP in the end to battle the redistricting and that was fine by her because her community was not impacted - no need to amend. To be frank, the discussions seem to just go right over her head.
She has been shunned by the rest of the board, not sure this whole censure thing is even needed. The kool aid crowd doesn't get this.

Say what you will about Stewart but he appears to be a no nonsense guy who wants to get things done. He effectively said they are going to redraw the map if the new Lawson phase looks like its going to be an issue. I bet the new Lawson and the new Standard Pacific development on Providence goes Kensington. Millbridge doesn't look like its growing as fast as thought. Must be because they didn't get that connector road in this summer.

Benton doesn't seem to bad either.

People need to watch the meetings.

SIGNS
Signs Advertising Use of School Facilities
1. The content of the signs is limited to the following event information only: the name of the
group, when and where the meeting will take place, and contact information such as a phone
number or website. No other information will be allowed on signs posted on school property.
2.Signs may only be posted after school hours. For weekday meetings, signs may be posted after
regular school hours the day before the meeting and removed before school begins the day
after the meeting. For weekend meetings, signs may be posted after regular school hours on
Fridays and removed before school begins on Mondays. Under no circumstances are signs to
remain posted on school property all day, every day.
3. All signs placed on school property must meet county zoning requirements. Placement and
removal of signs is the sole responsibility of the organization. Should the user fail to follow
these guidelines the sign will be removed by the district, at the users cost, and the user’s ability
to post signs will be withdrawn. Repeated violations may cause cancellation of the rental
contract or denial of use of the facility.
4. Storage of signs is the sole responsibility of the organization. Provisions for on-site storage are
in the sole discretion of the principal.
5. All damage to school property or landscaping will be promptly repaired to the satisfaction of
UCPS.
Temporary Political Signs during Elections
For schools serving as polling places in elections, the guidelines prescribed by the Union County
Board of Elections regarding signs will be followed:
1. Signs must be at least 50 feet from the main entrance to the polling place.
2 Only temporary campaign signs will be permitted up to 14 hours prior to elections under
administrative guidelines developed in accordance with local and state law. All signs shall be
removed before the start of school the day following the election.
3. All damage to school property or landscaping will be promptly repaired to the satisfaction of
UCPS.

Yes I get what she did is wrong - the BOE has clearly stated and expressed their disapproval. (the definition of censure)
Why does a lawyer need to be paid for this???

Because they decided they wanted an independent investigation of the facts and general counsel said she wasn't comfortable doing it herself because it could be a potential conflict. Even Savage agreed with the approach. At any time she could have suggested an alternative but she didn't of course. Blame Collins for suggesting the investigation approach.

She's the Vice Chair of the board and the Chair of the Curriculum committee so she should know better on multiple accounts. Despite saying that her first responsibility is the UCPS BOE ..."It is, and it will continue to be,” she has missed meetings due to her position on the state board. So maybe should be it's her first responsibility when it doesn't conflict with the state BOE of course. And when she starts making comments to the Observer like “It’s a waste of time and taxpayer money,” http://www.charlotteobserver.com/201...ice-chair.html she forgets she actually voted to waste the time and taxpayer money on herself. Only Pigg voted against it. I don't think any of them wanted to spend money on outside counsel. Some of them made that clear.

Instead of relying on FB accounts watch the meeting and decide for yourself.

But you didn't answer the question. What is the point of spending more money to investigate? What is the outcome that will be worth spending the money on? Again, if the end result is censure, which is what KS asked for, then hasn't that essentially already been done? That money would be much better spent on our kids and our schools.

And if you watch the meeting, you will see that the reason she voted to investigate herself was because she said she had nothing to hide. And if she voted against it people would say that she was trying to hide something. She was in a no win situation when it came to voting.

I agree - for all the hits on KS and RY they govern with conviction, aren't afraid to throw their weight around, and care less about "the noise" than the end game. Savage on the other hand is all about the noise and ends up frozen because it is impossible to make everyone happy - a lesson I can't believe she still hasn't learned.

Anything is possible, but I highly doubt they'll create islands within the boundaries... part of Lawson or the Providence new development zoned to a different school. History and Webb most recently have shown they want contiguous borders. Looking at RE it seems that Lawson has the sweet spot around 400-500k nailed and it's paying dividends for them. The lower (i.e. Millbridge) and higher (i.e. Marvin) seem to be lagging behind. So it seems more logical to reset the area SW of Providence and Bonds Grove to Kensington or maybe back to SRES - lol at Valhalla, but that move would settle NTES being over, Kensington being under, and SRES being under in one move on a border. That seems more logical, but logic isn't always the #1 factor as we know.
