I work on IBM Drive in North Charlotte. While we live at the border of Mecklenburg and union county, off of Providence Rd. It takes about 50 mins for me if I take the east I485 in the morning .
My spouse works in downtown and he still takes 40-50 mins to reach uptown.
I am so tired of driving that I want to move some place closer to North but I would prefer living in the Blakeney/Ballantyne area for schools.
If living in Blakeney/Ballantyne area, what would be the best route to go to IBM drive? And would the commute for my spouse to downtown reduce too?
I don't sense any good solution if you are focused on Blakeney/Ballantyne. The roads don't offer easy access to northeast Charlotte. I would think the Mint Hill area is a better compromise for the both of you from a commuting standpoint.
Wait...isn't where you are now already pretty close to Ballantyne/Blakeney? Would it really make much difference? In fact it'd probably be longer for you since it might still be easier to take 485 east. I'd also imagine Providence Rd is probably an easier commute to uptown than 485/77 although I could be wrong there.
We live in Stallings -- my husband works in the University area not far from IBM drive and I work in Ballantyne Corporate Park off of Johnston Rd. We both take 485 to work (opposite directions) and both have about a 25-30 minute commute. If you're looking to go from Ballantyne/Blakeney to the University Area it's not going to be any different really from being off Providence Rd... it might actually be longer. It's probably better to look in Matthews/Mint Hill/Indian Trail, but that drive for your husband to Uptown might be rough if he has to take 74.
Stallings is not far from Providence Rd. Living there might at most shed 10 minutes off your commute. Have you considered Mint Hill instead? It's a good halfway point for both of you. Bain Elementary is an excellent, highly rated school in the middle of Mint Hill.
Otherwise, there is not other easier way to get to your job location than what you are currently doing, sorry.
I live in almost the same area as you (OP), I work downtown, and it takes me 33-35 minutes. It's all about timing. You have to leave before 7. If you want to leave your house later, you need to move closer to work.
Thank you for your suggestions. With Elementary schools I am also looking at good middle and high schools.
Because my elder one would be in middle next year while my younger one will start Elementary.
Did the newly built ballantyne fly-overs not bring down the traffic in that area? I was hoping that in-turn the commute from ballantyne must have reduced.
