We just had another CA transplant couple move in to our neighborhood. They are retired and really great folks.

Orange County Native
I moved here 6 years ago thinking people would be a little less driven by their wealth, and havent noticed a difference at all.
I so miss So Cal and the beach and the easy going people so much. I just have to remind myself to stay away from affluent neighborhoods the next time I visit... Cause thats what makes me want to leave time and again. The self loving, got my detox, private schools, brand names.... To me So Cal is the beach and that will never happen in Charlotte.

I think you are going to find that anywhere, unfortunately.....people are quite obsessed with themselves anywhere!
But I do notice that people are little more concerned here with some of those things.....in CA you can hit the grocery store and see lots of people in shorts, very casual and minimal make up. Here I feel like you really shouldn't go out unless you look good enough to run into someone you might feel the need to impress!!!! Ok, I don't do that, but it looks to me like many do. I think it is also a Southern thing, even though I don't think Charlotte is all that Southern overall.....a few friends have told me they would never answer the door without their make up on! I would rarely answer my door then! But I don't get all that many people just dropping by either.

I live in Charlotte on Lake Wylie, talking about international! In our culdesac there is a family from Belgium, France, Poland, England, Greece and Germany. Then of course there are just americans making up the rest of the group. (I'm one of them) It is great getting to know the different cultures. So you see Charlotte is International also.

Born in Santa Clara, lived till I was 10 in Sunnyvale...moved to So. Calif...Whittier--grew up there, for the most part...
Then moved to Long Beach, then Huntington Beach...and Coto de Caza/Trabuco Canyon area when we moved away...
Love it here! Miss my sister in Rancho Santa Margarita though...but my mom followed me, moved from Santa Ana!

Just moved back from Newport Beach, but not originally from there. There are a few things that I miss (mainly the weather and some restaurants...PINKBERRY!!! and In and Out) but I love having a house and being around my family again.

Actually, Charlotte is as international as many places in California, just not L.A., San Francisco, or some other major metro areas. Unfortunately, you will probably have some Americans on your street here if you live in a better neighborhood.

Born in San Jose, lived in San Diego and Bakersfield. Moving to Charlotte in 2 months. Cali is too EXPENSIVE! It's cool that there are so many from CA though.
