Planning on moving to Charlotte
Hi Everyone!!!, I'm planning on moving to Charlotte from Orlando probably in the next 6-12 months. I have never been there, but planning to visit on the next 3 months or so. I'm not so worry about employment, b/c I'll be transferring with my current employer, what I'm concern about is the quality of life, I've been looking @ apts. on the 28262 zip code & nearby areas, I would like a short drive from home to work, no more than 20 min. drive to be specific, ( I know it all depends on traffic also), but the headquarters of my employer are on that area, so, is that a decent area to live in?, (single, no kids, etc.). I know is going to be a bit of a "cultural shock" for me b/c I'm not originally from the south, although I live in Orlando now, but Orlando is somewhat diverse, any comments or suggestions on that?. Thanks for your help in advance!!!....... HAPPY & PROSPEROUS 2008!!!!!!

Great city, move here at the earliest. Just check the properties and make sure you are in a safe area for you. Good luck

Just an opinion but I would look in the 28269 ZIP code. Generally better west of I-85.

Agreed, the further north and further west the better. Until you get to like Tennesee then you've gone too far.

The further west?
I'm not currently living in Charlotte but have been reading a lot of the threads that have been posted in the past and it seems that most recommend moving either North or South and avoiding the East and West areas.
For the North, and for a singles area what I've seen is recommendations either in Uptown or near the University. For South, the recommendations tend to be for Ballantyne or the Matthews area. Using Google Maps it seems like most are within a twenty minute drive or so.
Since I'm looking at rentals too, there are some highly recommended ones according to apartmentratings.com in the Matthews area. It seems that the rentals to the North tend to be pricer.

You misunderstand the prior posters responses
They are saying go further west in that particular zip code the op is inquiring about (which is the university area). When generalizing about living in Charlotte itself, most will tell you the trendy, nicer areas are in the south side of the city and north side of the county (not north Charlotte). However, not all of west or east Charlotte is to be avoided - there are some great, close in locations with 10 minute commutes that many people appreciate.

Exactly, if you want to stay in the University area, west and north are good. South Charlotte probably has the betetr schools for staying in Charlotte, but North Meck has some nice areas around Huntersville and Concord (not Charlotte proper). Charlotte does not really have a young people/singles area outside of uptown, which is expensive. People may disagree with me, but I am comparing to other larger cities which people may be familiar with.
