Registering my out-of-state leased vehicle (Charlotte: car registration, insurance, DMV)

Hi all, I have a few questions about registering my vehicle:


1) I live right on the Meck/Cabarrus County line (on the Meck side). Can I go to the Cabarrus Co DMV to register my car or do I have to drive all the way to downtown Charlotte?

2) My car is in both mine and my mom's name (Actually, the registration says "Me" OR "Mom"). Mom lives in AL. Will I need to get her signature on the registration papers or can I do everything myself?

3) Since this is a leased vehicle, I do not have the title. Do I just need to contact the lessor for a copy of the title, or will the MVR-330 form take care of that?


Anything else I should be aware of?

Sorry I cant help and I know the DMV website is a mess.

I would definetely call the NC DMV and ask all these questions before you get there. If you dont ask, you are bound to wait in a long line only to find out you need more items.

Some things I do know is that you better have your proof of insurance card and lease information available.

Hi you can register your car and get your drivers license in any county in this state (they will not be in the same location and you will need to obtain driver's license first) Only thing you need to make sure they put the correct county you are residing in on the registration.

When I need to take care of matters like this I usually go to a county that it office isnt so busy so I know it will work.
