My husband booked the kids and I in the Quality Inn (next to Cracker Barrel). I'm not a snob. I've liked several Quality Inns that we've stayed in, but this one isn't so good.

Smells badly of smoke, the room is super small etc.

We're just passing through. Can you make a suggestion for an inexpensive hotel just off 85 that is nice(er)? We're hoping to find a hotel w/ the free breakfast around $60 or $70. We'll be coming back through Charlotte next week.

Many Quality Inns have been great -- but not this one. Maybe there's another Quality Inn in the area?

Best to stay clear of hotels right on I-85 between Exits 32 and 45. Lots of "activity" there.

There are some good choices at Exit 49, Concord Mills Blvd/Bruton Smith Blvd that are hurting for business this time of year so their rates will be lower.

I don't know what day you're staying but I found Spring Hill Suites over there for $89 including breakfast and it rates 3/5 on Travelocity.

I would go with nacmd70's recommendation. If I find anything south of $80 bucks, I would be wary. Since this is the slow season, you will find better rates. Good luck and stay away from anything on I-85 that is inexpensive ...as someone says...there will "activity" at these places and some of it HIGHLY dangerous.
