I started a new job recently uptown and I live in the university area. I have found traffic to be very bad on the 85 and 77. Does anyone have any suggestions for alternate routes? Like I said I am coming from UNCC and it takes quite a bit of time. Also, the daily accidents on the highways creates for even slower traffic. I appreciate any suggestions!

Directly from the UNCC campus? Take North Tryon straight into the city.

Yeah you could take N. Tryon but then you're just trading tons of traffic lights for the 85 congestion. So 85 to 77 is usually your fastest route. There really isn't a good alternative.

I drive from Concord, Poplar Tent exit, to uptown for my daily commute. I take I85->Sugar Creek Rd->Tryon. I hate the I85 south to I77 south interchange. 85S traffic is nothing compared to 85N and 77S/N traffic.

In rush hour, N. Tryon beats 85-77. Other times of the day 85-77 best bet.
