Local story on Sling TV and what it might mean for cable subscribers. For the unaware, MI-Connection, is the municipal cable company owned by Davidson, Mooresville, Cornelius.
The early adopter invitations are supposed to begin going out tomorrow with the first 10 days free to try it out for those folks who signed up. I signed up so we'll see if I get an invite and if so I'll get it setup and start testing it out.
Ars Technica has an interesting article as to whether real cord cutters will even be interested. After all, it's a collection of channels that have mostly gone to pot (content wise) which is why people have stopped watching. I do know that I'm reminded, every time I visit someone with cable and the ubiquitous TV is running with some loudmouth droning on about nothing, why I gave it up in the first place.

I disagree. ESPN is the #1 reason that many people don't cut the cord, and Sling is offering a much cheaper option for people who want ESPN but don't care about most other channels. Sure, there are some cord cutters that don't care for live tv at all anymore, but there are A LOT of people that will get Sling TV simply because of ESPN.
On a separate note, has anybody dropped their cable package and gone to internet-only recently? My contract ends in February and I plan on giving Sling TV a try. I have no idea what it'll cost for internet-only though. I can see the new-customer price on their website, but what experience do existing customers have when it comes to dropping their cable?
Problem with ESPN is they keep expanding the networks. You miss ESPNU, SEC Network, ESPN News, etc. Sling would be more attractive if you got all ESPN networks. Do you get WatchESPN access with a Sling Subscription. Guessing no.
