It's hard to say we shouldn't have seen this one coming after that merger. I hope the taxpayers do get their money back and the people who doled it out take this as a lesson.

Suggest you do some homework and look at the history of this move. The company was not in a good financial position before the move, was still dealing with the fallout from legal issues over a 2007 payment of a $25 million fine to the U.S. Justice Department after admitting to paying protection money for its banana farms in Colombia, and the then CEO Fernando Aguirre was feeling the heat for allowing the company to flounder.
