Hi! My fiance just got relocated to Charlotte from Buffalo, NY and I am a school psychologist and counselor considering a position in Cleveland County schools. Can anyone off any information regarding some place to live in between (west of Charlotte)? We have not visited yet as we just found out about this transfer and have no clue where to start. If anyone knows of the quality of Cleveland County schools or the area, any comments would be greatly appreciated! If anyone knows of other good districts in the area looking for school psychologists or counselors that would be great as well! Thanks so much! We are lost at where to begin, but we won't miss the snow!!!

I don't have the best answer for you on where to live, but I can tell you it won't be very difficult for you to feel at home down here. I moved to the Charlotte area from Lockport, NY in the spring of last year and there are tons of WNYers in the area! There are even a few Buffalo-themed sports bars. One that has every Sabres game on is Tavern on the Tracks just south of uptown and in Matthews there is the Township Grille in the Home Depot plaza off of Independence. Both have Buffalo sports memorabilia and WNY-style food. There may be others, but those are the two that I have run into so far.

The only thing I can tell you about where to live in the Charlotte metro area is that Cleveland County is out there pretty good. The most popular suburbs of Charlotte are north and south of the city, with the eastern suburbs (where I live) fairly popular, as well. Fewer live west of the city in the burbs, anyway, and I haven't heard a lot of good things about Gastonia. Hopefully others that know more than I do will chime in about areas west of Charlotte - and I'm sure someone will try to defend Gastonia's reputation now that I've spoken about it in a negative way.

Cleveland County is pretty far out and rural. thus very different from Charlotte. Many people refer to Charlotte as "Buffalo South".

Default Thanks!

Thanks so much for your input! We are getting more excited. We were thinking of trying to live somewhere half-way between Cleveland County and Charlotte. I heard good things about some parts of Gastonia...i.e. McAddenville, Belmont, and Mt. Holly so maybe that would be a good compromise if my job is in Cleveland and his is in uptown Charlotte with the Bank of America. Any more suggestions would be great!!!! I know one thing, we won't miss all the snow!!!!

There's also Towne Tavern in Fort Mill..owned by former co-owner of Tavern on the Tracks.

Lake Wylie area would be nice. It is about 30 min to Charlotte and 30 min through the country to Kings Mountain. We live on Lake Wylie and it is very nice. Golfing, tennis, boating, swimming and hiking all in the area. In the Riverpointe neighborhood you are looking at pricing from $300,000 off water to $900 - 1 million on the water.

Cleveland County is rather rural. Mount Holly and Belmont have high taxes and also nice housing.

Either will work great for you!!!
