So we have just been informed by our apartment complex that we need to move to another apartment due to some electrical issues with our apartment. We are moving to the unit directly below us (yes the electric is separate from the one we're in now, lol). We have 1 bedroom, living room & small office..I emailed for a quote a couple places and have gotten over $350 from both. We don't even need a truck, no packing help, no boxes. Anyone know somewhere or some way to get us moved without breaking the bank? We have about 2 weeks to make it happen.

I would think the apartment complex would either pay for someone to move you, or have their maintenance staff do it. Have you talked to them about that?

I am surprised the apartment manager didn't offer any credit or offer to pay for the movers. It isn't your choice to move. With that said, call around for movers that charge by the hour and just have everything ready for them to move it down. Don't make them stand around while you move stuff or take off lamps etc. Have everything stripped down, drawers removed from dressers, papers packed up, knickknacks in boxes etc.

UHaul usually has a list of hourly workers in your area, along with pricing.

I would hound the office to pay for your movers and if a resolution isn't met on the spot, file in small claims court for them to pay (unless you caused the "electrical issue"). Last thing they want is to pay a lawyer to go to SCC on something they would lose.

"We," sounds like more than one person lives there. A 1 bed apart. should be no problem for two adults to move on there own. Other choices are hound the office to move you, or over pay movers. Small jobs are expensive for moving companies, just because no boxes or trucks are involved, doesn't mean insurance, truck payments, healthcare, etc.., are also negated.

Agreed. I would just move myself or if that is not doable, have the office pay for it. Maybe they can offer a free month rent for the inconvenience? Never know until you ask, the worst they can say is no.

Good luck!

Agreed that the complex should pay for you to move if they have electrical issues that they can't fix with you living there.

That being said, I do recommend New Beginnings Moving and Storage. They moved us twice last year (we had a gap between our old house and our new one, so we had to live in an apartment for a few months) and they should cut you a better deal than $350. They were nice guys, very careful with our things, and quick (which was nice since we paid an hourly rate).

We did this literally a few years back of our own choosing because we wanted an updated unit. But we moved directly downstairs - we signed the new lease on a Friday, had to be out of the old unit by Monday morning. We did it ourselves - we moved a 2 bedroom full size apartment. In my case, it was me, hubby and son.

In your case like others have suggested, I would contact the leasing office for assistance, if the electrical issue wasn't caused by you.
