I am not trying to be negative because I do love meeting new people and I certainly understand why people are leaving the North! However, I am just curious to see if others are concerned like I am. I feel it every single day from trying to get to school or trying to get in to see a new Dr. or Dentist, even waiting for dinner at an overcrowded restaurant on a Monday evening.
I feel the growing pains all around and I am sure most of you do too. I live in Union County and recently moved my kids to a private school in Meck County because we were tired of the fighting, the overcrowded classes, and the redistricting. Our morning commutes are tough because the traffic in both directions is absolutely horrendous. From the roads to the amenities it feels like we just cannot handle the population growth now and I hear a ton of people are headed this way!
Anyway, are you worried at all or are your confident that we can keep up with all the new transplants heading to the Carolinas?
Not worried - the growth has been going on for years and I don't see it stopping. That is why I live within about 5 miles of central Charlotte. I do have to travel around the city for my job but thankfully, not during rush hours. Pretty much everywhere else I go on a daily basis is within a mile or so of my house.

If you live in Union County the commute has to be factored in when purchasing the home.
It's been the same story since I joined this forum 8 years ago - the area is growing and in demand and this has been a hot topic forever. I don't know why it's different now, unless you just recently moved here?
You have to admit much of your pain is self inflicted if you're sending your kid(s) up into Meck for private school while living down in Union county. I'm not sure that was well thought out if you're suddenly shocked by the congestion.
I guess im one of the few who think Charlotte is growing too fast. The interstates aren't terrible but the amount of clear-cutting for new construction is sad. The part that bugs me most is the amountil of people who move here without getting a NCDL and plates for their car (s), all the while complaining about the roads.
Maybe someone should start a "I'm moving out of Charlotte" thread to balance out the influx ;o)
But seriously, people get excited and post about moving in but you probably aren't seeing the # of people that are also leaving. Not saying that the outbound outweigh the inbound as Charlotte does seem to be growing. With growth comes some pains as you pointed out. Long term it probably will be a good thing but in the meantime Charlotte and its leadership need to plan for the growth.
Well add me to the move in bunch...Im moving from Houston to Charlotte next week....
