Usually ride my bike from my house in Indian trail heading further out to the edge of union, into anson and Stanley counties. Lately I've been trying to take pictures of abandoned houses, sleepy main streets, etc.. I've noticed a few times now a series of large abandoned houses right off 218 in Olive Branch (just north of marshville). A little further down the road is what looks like a very old general store and a few other buildings fenced in a horse pasture now, a sign out front says "Chumville" I know there aren't many locals here and even fewer from the rural parts but any info would be great.
I would recommend asking at the main library branch in Monroe, or with the women who run the Heritage Room in the historic courthouse in Downtown Monroe. That might be a decent place to start.
Well I got some info that the Chumville signs and buildings may not have originated there and I'm thinking might not even be a real place. They did seem oddly arraigned and the location didn't look very centralized. So now just to find out about the houses. Got some good info here, thanks everyone. I see abandoned houses all over the rural parts but none like these.
Those homes were moved there approximately 20 or so years ago. I use to live further down that road, close to the Anson County line. I use to know the family that lived on the corner there, went to school with their sons, but that's been so long ago I'm not a lot of help.
My wife and I go riding in that area a lot too.
It has some great roads and it's much easier to get to from where we live than going through Charlotte to the west.
We see the same houses and Chumville too and have often wondered about it's history.
