Sorry Diamond--I was referring to Danny Helms long list of warnings he received. I totally did not realize who I quoted and I am sorry for that. No I agree 5x in 30 yrs is great odds, I have 3x in 15 years so I am right there with you, hoping though I don't get two more, lol. Again, sorry, was directed toward D Helms post.

Make sure that you cross at the corner if you walk in the downtown area. Those 'road runner' police will be on you quick if you don't!

All I can say to Danny is WOW.
Anyhoo....back to the point, all of our NY friends kept telling us how we "wanted" to live in ballantyne when we moved here. We rentd there for a few months and it was fine. More than fine, it was nice. However, I didn't want to live there. New homes all on top of the other with crowded shopping centers. We moved to Matthews right by Prov Plantation so it's right across the street from Charlotte...it's so pretty and I love the cute little down...It's all about the feel you want...E/t I'm already TICKED about the widening of Weddington Road and the 2011 addition of the 485 ramps...

Opinion from a Matthews resident
Hi there,
I live in Matthews. I moved here 9 months ago and while I have never experienced the aforementioned swat police or been pulled over at all (knock wood), I will say that I do drive by signs that say "the town of Matthews stole my farm". I can't say if that is true since I really don't know for sure. If the corruption rumors are true, it doesn't seem to affect quality of life here in a way that would be obvious to all.
What I will also say, is that Matthews is simply "nice". I wouldn't go so far as to call it quaint or "hometown" since it really has an awful lot of strip malls. But I will say that it is clean, friendly and really really convenient for day to day living. I have found some quirky, fun, likable things - to name a few: Jonathan's Restaurant and the BeanTown Tavern plus a really cute down town with a cozy library, and a farmer's market on the weekends. And two weeks ago was the Matthews Alive festival, which was alot of fun and made me glad to live here.
I will eventually seek out a more rural area in Union County when I buy a home... but as for doing time in a rental, Matthews is a pretty good option especially for the price.

Herre is a link that I have found:
North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation
Click on crime statistics on the left side bar.
Then you can click:
Traffic Stop Statistics - which gives a break down by city/county agency of traffic stops.
FAQs
Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program - this give a break down of statistics of ratio per population, crime offenses, and what % were cleared. This also breaks it down by city/county agency (such as Sheriff's office) and it breaks it down by county which has each city listed within the specified county.

You're overstating because you aren't certain to get a ticket doing 50 in a 45. You, my friend, are just unlucky.

A friend of mine who works in the Meck DA's office says that they regularly toss traffic tickets written by the Matthews PD just to tick the police off.

Looks like the Meck DA's office tosses a lot of stuff.
