Hello everyone,
We are planning to move to Charlotte 2015 spring/summer. My husband will be working at 1525 West WT Harris Blvd and looking for some apartments around the area. Our price range is between $1200 and $1400. We have an infant and it should be close to parks, shopping centers, and farmers markets. Which neighborhoods should we consider looking?
Mallard Creek Church/Prosperity Church are the nicer areas. Prosperity Church is upper middle class with parks and greenway nearby. Trader Joes, Fresh Market, Harris Teeter, Northlake Mall, Concord Mills Mall, and all the restaurants and shops around there. I live off of Mallard Creek and will be working at CIC where your husband will be also(transfering from downtown highrise). It takes me 5-10 minutes to get there. I live in Rossmore that is townhomes right off mallard creek on the greenway, there are some for rent in here in your budget and we have never had a problem.

I think upper middle class might be a bit of a stretch for the Prosperity Church corridor.....maybe just middle class. Most homes are in the $150k-$199k range. Nice area regardless.

Yeah middle class is more like it Highland Creek area is more upper middle class I usually just lump them together.
It has been said over and over again that all of university city is a great place to live. Low crime, low prices in the grocery stores. Around the campus is apartment living at its finest. Everyone knows that.

My top recommendation for you would be a brand new complex just opening up near your husbands work location. They are pre-leasing now and should be open by spring. You would be in a very nice area convenient to a Trader Joe's and other retail.

Don't know who, other than you, that has been saying this, but you could not give me free rent to live in many of the university city apartments. Crime is very high, just look it up on the Meck police on-line report.
It's hard to define what UCity is. Certain places like Derita, Hidden Valley, Sugar Creek area are higher crime, but then Northeast of these areas like Mallard Creek, Prospertiy Church, Mallard Creek Church, and Tryon north of Harris are not. The UCity police cover such a large area it really does depend on where you live. If you stay North of Harris you should be fine with Prosperity Church/ Highland Creek being very low crime and a nicer area.
All the new construction is pushing the not so great element further down Tryon towards Sugar Creek and Eastway. Sugar Creek/Derita/Hidden Valley are really the only bad areas and are very very easy to avoid.

Above is the OP the area the OP is looking, its the heart of University therefore I added to clarify where the OP is looking, please refrain from the off topic banter and answer the OP questions above unless the OP decides the need to discuss other things.
The area around the campus has everything you're looking for, and it's within your price range. best of all, the crime is pretty low compared to other campuses.
Each map shows parks and the areas referenced by other forum members. If you scroll down, you'll see incidents of crime that will help you to validate the comments of other forum members re: crime.
