Clean safe hotels near Lake Norman?
We are coming down next weekend to check out the Lake Norman area. Any suggestions for a safe, clean hotel?
We will be checking out the rural areas and small towns that are commutable to Charlotte. So I guess something centrally or easy to and from would be best.

Exit 25 off of what highway? They give discounts for possible relocaters?
We will be driving in from Greensboro airport if that makes a difference.

Take I-40 WEST to Statesville (about 1hr)
Take I-77 SOUTH to Huntersville (Exit #25) (about 25 minutes).
There is a Country Inn & Suites and also a Courtyard by Marriott and Residence In by Marriott at Exit #25 (Birkdale area).

When we looked in the Lake Norman area we stayed at the WINGATE INN located on exit 36 (Mooresville) on I-77. When you get off the highway, head west on HWY 150 to the first traffic light. Make a right and its back behind the Cracker Barrel there. I highly recommend it, it was very clean and had free internet, indoor pool (if u have kids), a a gym, free breakfast, etc.
I'd offer a room at our house to stay at, but we haven't explored the BedNBreakfast route yet, lol!

The main hotel off Exit 33 is the Spring Hill Suites by Marriott. It's about a year old and has the latest features including plasma wall mounted TV's (not that you're coming here to watch TV ).
This exit is about 20 to 25 miles north of downtown Charlotte and is the Southernmost exit (for now) in Iredell County. Just below here is Mecklinburg County, which includes and surrounds Charlotte.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. It looks like there is plenty to choose from. Don't need a pool or anything fancy, kids are staying home with hubby. It's just my Mom and I doing preliminary exploration so we figure we would travel light and leave everyon else home!
We will be checking out a few neighborhoods since my parents are looking to buy in a neighborhood, but basically trying to get a feel for the area. I am looking for rural areas where we can buy at least 5 acres, build a custom home and better school systems are a must.
Thanks everyone for all your help.
