Need Help With Weddington!!!
Hi all! So after pretty much exhausting our search in area 4, 5, and 6 (BTW, I really don't like Ballantyne after all of my friends telling me how great it is LOL)...
We are looking at Weddington. I need to stay close-ish to the airport and can't go too far south or east. I don't know much about it.
Are there any areas to avoid/bad schools???? I LOVE the privacy and the large lots I'm seeing online!!!
THANKS!!!

Weddington is a beautiful area and you can't go wrong with any of the schools there - they are all top notch.

Weddington is beautiful and quite upscale. But you will have a commute to the airport. 16 (Providence Rd) can get very busy at morning & evening rush hour along with I-485.
Great schools. The BEST place to live in Union County (in my opinion).
GOOD LUCK!

As with schools everywhere, the success is in the eye of the beholder and I always recommend that you should physically go to the school and meet with the principal before making decisions based on test scores and how pretty the houses are around the area. When we were transferred here last year, my kids were assigned to Weddington. I'm not saying it was great or not great because everyone has their own opinion (though I can imagine you'd be able to find another post from more than just me). What I will say is that their test scores reflect a massive preparation for those tests that begins in late March.....same is true for several other schools.
We live out here and Weddington/Wesley Chapel is beautiful and filled with very friendly outgoing neighbors. If you are selecting an area to live in based on how much you are going to like the schools, please do some visiting on a separate trip. Good luck. I hope you'll love it out here as much as we have.

Thanks guys! No kids yet, so the schools aren't a TOP concern, but it's important in terms of value in my opinion...I am set to see 8 homes....We are looking to stay fairly close to Meck border..
NOW, of course, the other Ballantyne home that fell threw is now back on the table. Ugh! It's a great quiet street, but I don't love Ballantyne. But it is closer to uptown, etc. So something to think about!
THANKS!

we live in Weddington and we love it - we love our house, our lot, our quiet neighborhood and we love the zoning in Weddington - it protects the land. Also, Wesley Chapel just passed liquor by the drink so we will get some good restuarants soon at 84/Waxhaw-Indian Trail Rd (which is technically Wesley Chapel but right next to Weddington)

Best of Luck
To stay closer to Airport, I would try Marvin over Weddington, both are beautiful.
Also you can go along 521 in SC.
What is your price range? Also what is un-appealing about Ballantyne?

Having liquor by the drink in a town without adequate policing is a prescription for disaster. I would have much rather seen other things like a public library, town hall, YMCA, police department, adequate roads etc. before liqour by the drink. (and yes, I do drink). Some people think that good resturants will automatically come to WC just because they can serve liquor, but actually they won't, unless they count places like Applebys, or OCharlies as fine dining.

LBD and the STONE AGES
We do not live in a time of prohibition. I'm fairly new here and have a great deal of respect for the Southern way of life, but whether or not a town can serve liquor by the drink in their restaurants shouldn't be as hot a topic as it seems to be. I live in Indian Trail which does not have LBD, and I'm fine with that. I don't really care that if I want to go to Applebees or Firebirds or some random bar that I have to drive 20 minutes. I'm a responsible adult and I expect the good people of Union county to be equally (if not more) responsible. I didn't even know that Wesley Chapel passed LBD, and now that it's here, I don't think it'll affect the area much if at all. This is the 21st century and if people want to go out to a nice dinner or even the watering hole down the block, I say let them have at it. I'm confident that the liquor license will be heftily priced enough to deter "bad inflence" bars and the like.
