This is not a Cold War mentality. It is a mentality in line with #1 the very real threat of international terrorism today who can and will likely use CBRNs in the near future; increasing catastrophic natural disasters; the great instability of the dollar and global economy; and the rise of new emerging infectious diseases.

Do you think New Orleans expected their city to drown?

Do you think Malibu expected their city to burn?

Do you know how easy it would be to unleash Ebola or Marburg in our cities?

Do you know how easy it would be to collapse the U.S. economy?

Being prepared for everything prepares you for anything.

I always say that I'd rather be prepared to survive any disaster in my lifetime than to live through one disaster and not be prepared.
There has got to be a whole lot of cash under your mattress

Now, Diamond, you know that ever since The War, we Southerners stash our cash in coffee cans in the back yard.

Workin' on that now but it won't be mostly cash. If it's long term tis better to look at precious medals--silver and gold. The dollar isn't looking so hot right now and it won't take much to collapse it altogether. So cash under the mattress will be as valuable as monopoly money.

Sounds like a plan to me!!!

If the power goes off, I have a little tiny radio thingie - that you wind up . . . no batteries required. We can gather round and still listen to the game . . . now I think that is truly being prepared.
