Potato cakes sound good. I am making a big pot of chili w/ kidney beans.
Here is that thread and recipe only thing I did different is I substituted biscuit crumbs with the box of bread crumbs you get by stuffing at the store.
(day old biscuits always turn to bricks or soggy with me).

The consistency looks like bread pudding but the taste remind me stuffing with tomatoes probably because of the all spice.

Funny thing is that I am from the South and had never heard of Fried Pickles until I moved to Charlotte.

The Penguin is actually the 1st place I saw them!

7oh4: I have never had them. Groove has mentioned them before! Guess I am gonna have to make a trip to the Penguin and find out about this delicacy!

Now fried green tomatoes . . . my family did occasionally have those. The problem is - keeping the breading from getting greasy. Can't stand the grease.

I am trying to envision fried pickles. Are they sliced??? Then fried??? Are they dill pickles?

Have not tried them either. All my friends order them and rave about them at the Penguin. I love that funky little diner! I will try them next time.

Anyone been to Diamond near the Penguin. Talking about some good Southern Food, my favorite is Chicken & Dumplings!

At last year State Fair they was serving fried cookie dough, fried Twinkies, fried oreos, and fried cheesecake.

I usually just lurk, but ya'll are making me hungry! I grew up in N. Florida, but my Grandparents are from the backwoods, so I'm really a Southerner, lol. My Nanny taught me to cook and I thought I was the last person in the world that knew what *real* Southern food was and how to make it!

Anyways, I just wanted to comment on grits- I've never met anyone (even Northerners) who wouldn't eat them as long as they had cheese in them. Cheese grits with fresh tomato, oh my...
