There are some pubs and drinking establishments in those areas.

Most nightlife in Charlotte centers around Uptown!

Not too familiar with exit 23, but Harris Blvd is close to UNCC so there are some pubs arond. The Flying Saucer is awesome.

There is no place to hang out at exit 23 except tailgaters to watch a game.

If you will be living in Bexley Creekside, you'd be closer to the bars/restauants around UNCC than you would driving upto Exit 23....even if there was something up there worth visiting.
As well as those already mentioned by 'got charlotte', I'd recommend the Wine Vault which is next to Boardwalk Billy's. You'll actually be living across the street from Midtown Sundries - a touch too smokey inside for my liking, but if you need a beer....

Going towards I-77 on Harris Blvd , your options are limited to Hickory Tavern or the Fox and Hound at Northlake Mall. Then I guess you could also call Harvey's an Exit 23 bar - it's east of I-77.

Midtown Sundries off WT Harris is also decent, and they have karaoke some nights if you're into that
